Hurricane Sandy might be threatening the East Coast, but Salem's Haunted Happenings celebrations are moving forward as planned for now.

City officials and emergency personnel are monitoring the situation and making preliminary preparations in case Sandy hits. 

"We will continue to monitor the storm’s progress and coordinate carefully with Public Works, Police, Fire, and Emergency Management personnel," city officials said in a press release late Friday.  

Officials said they are anticipating "a busy pre-Halloween weekend" with traffic and "parking impacts."

Police and members of the Department of Public Works will be on call for Halloween logistics as well as to prep for Sandy. 

The following information is courtesy of the City of Salem:

• "Public Works staff have been and will continue cleaning out catch basins in low areas, cleaning utility lines, checking on pump stations, trimming trees, removing debris and undertaking other preventative maintenance and storm preparations.

• We are requesting that residents work with their neighbors to continue clearing storm drains in front of their property and along their roadway. The DPW has had crews out clearing the storm drains, however with leaves dropping quickly during the Fall season it can be impossible to keep all drains continuously clear. We ask residents to check the storm drains, rake leaves away from the drain (not into the drain), and dispose of the leaves and debris in yard waste bins or brown paper leaf bags. Please do not remove any storm grates.

• The Transfer Station on Swampscott Road will be open on Saturday morning from 8:30am to 11:30am, for drop off of any yard waste, brush or leaves.

• At this point, we do not anticipate any delay in the curbside collection of trash or recycling next week. We do urge residents to not place their trash or recyclables curbside too soon to avoid the wind straying materials."
