Salem Police Warn Residents of Fraudulent Fundraising Activity

Police are warning residents of a door-to-door scam concentrated in South Salem.

are warning residents to be-on-the-lookout for a suspect who may be fraudulently collecting money for the Cancer Walk.

In a press release, SPD said they have received numerous complaints (approximately five) about an "aggressive" male who has "forced his way into people's homes." Complaints have been concentrated in the South Salem area.

The man is often accompanied by a female who "pushes a baby carriage with a young child inside." The female often waits at the curb or in the driveway, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male who is approximately 33-years-old. He is about 6'3" and has brown hair and hazel eyes, police said.

SPD asks residents to call the station immediately at 978-744-1212 if they have any information.

The Salem Police Department also issued this statement in the press release:

"The North Shore Medical Center’s Cancer Walk is a true charity which has benefited countless people in the greater Salem and greater Massachusetts areas. This notice is not meant to discourage you from contributing to the cause, but we wish to inform you of this activity to ensure your contributions go to the proper place."
