The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Sunday, June 23:

  • At 6:24 p.m., a man entered the police station to report that his bike was stolen from a bike rack on Bridge Street.
  • At 6:57 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Lafayette Street. John R. Bernard, 59, of 20 Bates Park Ave., Beverly, was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
  • At 7:26 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Thorndike Street.
  • At 7:29 p.m., police responded to a pas assault on Highland Avenue.
  • At 7:39 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Arthur Street.
  • At 8:06 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Pope Street.
  • At 9:19 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Pope Street.

  • At 12:32 a.m., police responded to a report of a man yelling on the sidewalk on Salem Street.
  • At 1:16 a.m., police responded to a report of fishermen on the MBTA bridge on Bridge Street.
  • At 1:16 a.m., police and fire units responded to a possible grass fire on Pope Street.
  • At 1:28 a.m., police responded to a report of a man sleeping behind the wheel of a Mercedes near the intersection of Marlborough Road and Highland Avenue. Jeffrey M. McCarthy, 52, of 15 Hancock St., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
  • At 2:41 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Clifton Avenue.
  • At 4:21 a.m., police responded to a report of a "tree ready to fall into the street" on Bridge Street. The Department of Public Works was notified.
  • At 6:10 a.m., police responded to a report of a past break-in on Greenway Road. A man told police the screen on one of his windows had been cut and his wallet was missing.
  • At 7:27 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Loring Avenue.
  • At 10:23 a.m., police investigated a theft of a television at Loring Towers. Miguel A. Suarez, 31, of 1000 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property valued above $250 and malicious destruction of property valued above $250.
  • At 12:55 p.m., police responded to a small outdoor fire near the intersection of Bridge and Flint streets.
  • At 1:11 p.m., police responded to a report of a man taking pictures of young girls in bathing suits on Fort Avenue.
  • At 2:06 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a cyclist near the intersection of Ord and Shillaber streets.
  • At 2:17 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Essex Street.
  • At 3:14 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Salem Street.
