Salem Girls Varsity Soccer goals versus Marblehead, Tuesday Oct. 26.

The Salem High School Girl's Soccer Witches came from behind three times on Tuesday against Marblehead, eking out a 5-4 win on a 78th minute goal by senior captain Desiree Deleon.

Salem senior Ariella Crowder, who replaced an injured Emma Titus in goal for most of the first half, scored twice in the second half, when the Witches offense exploded for five goals.

Things didn't look so positive for Salem (9-4-2) in the first half, after Titus came out in the fifth minute with a bloody nose. (Titus returned to goal at the start of the second half).

Marblehead's Emily Freidland put the Magicians up 1-0 in the 15th minute, and a goal by Kiley Fischer put Marblehead (1-9-2) up by two goals just before half-time.

The Witches came out flying in the second half, when senior captain Jasmine Bryant burst down the left side and slotted a pass to Crowder in front of goal. Crowder banged it in to bring the score to 2-1 in the 45th minute.

Ten minutes later, Bryant tied the score 2-2 when she volleyed in a corner kick from captain Lauren Schaejbe.

Then the goals came in a flurry, with Marblehead taking back the lead, 3-2, on a strike by Hayley Braun.

Two minutes later, Salem tied it again on a 35-yard direct kick by junior Jessica King, but Marblehead's Braun struck again in the 68th minute to give the lead back to her team for the third time of the game.

With only 12 minutes left in the game, Salem poured on the pressure and knotted the score at 4-4 when Crowder knocked in a ball from freshman Brenna Burke, past the charging Marblehead keeper.

In the 78th minute, Deleon scored the game winner with a shot from 15 yards away, which curled inside the right post.

The Witches have already qualified for the post-season tournament, and have three games remaining on their regular-season schedule.

Their final regular season home game at Bertram Field is at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 2 -- senior night -- against Peabody High School.
