Salem Police Narrowing Search for Package Thief [VIDEO]
Here's a quick update about a recent theft that sparked a conversation among our readers about package safety in Salem.
Earlier this month, Salem resident Bill Bushong asked us to publish this video footage of a woman stealing a package containing a $300, 64-pound birdcage off of his front porch on Mason Street.
When we checked back in with Bushong Wednesday afternoon, he was happy to report that a Salem Police detective said the ongoing investigation is now "focused on one person."
At 1:31 p.m. Christmas day, Salem police officers responded to Bushong's house to discuss the theft, according to that morning's police log post.
"My guess is that this person thought it was a flat-screen TV or something since the box looks similar," Bushong said. "And at 60-70 pounds (65 to be exact), it feels about right as well."
The story was featured on several area network news stations and prompted a conversation about package safety among our readers on Salem Patch.
We'll keep you updated.

I hope so. It is taking way too long for the police to bag this thief. I know from my mole they know who it is. I wonder if she is a family member of someone on the force? waiting for this to die down? Just saying.
