Salem Declares Snow Emergency Starting at 8 p.m.

The city of Salem announced Saturday morning that a snow emergency will go into effect at 8 p.m.

The following press release was issued by the city of Salem Saturday morning:

A snow emergency will go into effect Saturday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m.

Please remember, during the Snow Emergency a parking ban is in effect, and vehicles must be totally removed from city streets and sidewalks or your vehicle will be ticketed and towed.

Also, please note that vehicles must be removed from public and private parking lots, particularly at schools, immediately following the cancellation of the snow emergency.

(It is extremely important that cars be removed from school parking lots as quickly as possible after the cancellation of the snow emergency.) FYI: It is the policy of the DPS that snow removal will not take place in alternative parking areas, particularly at parks, until snow operations on city streets are completed. Please plan your vehicular needs accordingly.)

Thank you for your cooperation during this Snow Emergency.

When are Snow Emergency's declared?
The City of Salem implements a snow emergency when it is predicted that we are to receive two inches or more of snow accumulation. A parking ban automatically goes into effect when a snow emergency is declared.

How's that 1-3 working out for you? This may not be a major storm, but it is better to implement the system and be ready then to wait and see.

The National Weather Service's bulletin, posted at 4:36 PM EST, states snow accumulation of four to eight inches.

Is the parking ban still in effect? If so, LOTS of cars parked on the street in my neighborhood that should be ticketed & towed! Do I call the Police or Bill's Auto clinic directly?

Adrienne, I would probably call SPD, but I would suggest calling their non-emergency number (978-744-1212) for something like that.

Yes, the snow emergency is still in effect at this hour.

Thanks, Edward! 3 out of 6 cars have since moved. Around 8 a.m., I saw a police cruiser go by. The other cars are still there. It must not be a major concern. Maybe because it's Sunday? But why have a Parking Ban if you're not going to enforce it? Puzzling.
