Salem Boys and Girls Club Gets Fishy [Image Gallery]

After school program combines art and local wildlife by creating fish prints on Artists' Row.

The sounds of flopping fish, rapid brush strokes and unbridled laughter filled the New Derby Street corridor on late Tuesday afternoon, as 20 elementary school students learned how to make “fished impressions.” Joe Higgins of Fished Impressions demonstrated how he catches, freezes and paints underwater wildlife from nearby beaches to create innovative works of art.

The workshop was part of an after school program at the called “Ultimate Journey,” in which all of the games, art projects and activities center around nature and the environment. Check out the photos to learn more about Higgins’ artistic techniques and to see the kids’ final products.

Fished Impressions hosts a free children’s workshop every Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. on Artists' Row. For more information, be sure to check out the studio’s website or call owner Joe Higgins directly at (978) 944-1709.
