Sail Salem Launches The Thomas Brown

Dion's Yacht Yard hosted Mayor Driscoll for christening of donated boat.

The 34' 1966 Webber Cove boat Thomas Brown was christened Tuesday by Mayor Kimberly Driscoll at on .

The boat was named for Thomas G. Brown Jr. of Gloucester who donated it to Sail Salem for use as a race committee boat.

Brown was unaware that Sail Salem was christening the boat in his honor.

A group of Sail Salem students sailed across the harbor from Winter Island to attend the event.

Dave Smith of Sail Salem expressed gratitude on the part of that organization and said:

"Tom Brown has supported schools and children all of his life."

Prior to christening the boat Mayor Driscoll stated that "this is one of the largest, if not the largest donation ever to this program."
