Purse Snatched in Market Basket Parking Lot

Police said the woman was two feet away when a man took her purse and fled.

Police said a woman's purse was snatched Saturday afternoon while she was loading groceries into her vehicle after shopping at .

At 4:24 p.m., police responded to the Market Basket parking lot and spoke with the victim. The woman told police a man grabbed her purse and "ran off with it." Police said the incident occurred while the purse was in a shopping cart two feet away from the victim.

Police said they went into Market Basket and reviewed the tape and saw a man get out of a dark colored Ford Focus, walk over to the woman's car, take the purse and run.

"It was apparent that the operator of the vehicle and the suspect [were] both involved," police said. "The operator dropped the suspect off and possibly picked him up in the front of the parking lot near ."

Police said the suspect who allegedly snatched the purse was a white male. He was wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt with "Sons of Anarchy" lettering.

The Ford Focus was a two door hatchback, police said. It had a white child sunscreen on the driver's side rear passenger window, according to authorities.

Another video showed the vehicle waiting in the breakdown lane in front of for two minutes before it drove off to Market Basket.

Police said the purse was brown and green. Inside was an ATM card, $40 and paperwork.

Evidence was collect for the Criminal Investigation Division.
