Police Respond to Meaningless Number Sequences in Mailbox
The following was provided by the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday, Aug. 13
4:14 p.m. — An undesirable was reported on a Congress Street porch. Police said the person was taken into protective custody after he was found sleeping on a rear porch and was unable to stand up.
4:43 p.m. — Police said a past break-in to a vehicle was reported in the Museum Place Mall garage.
5:43 p.m. — Larceny of items was reported on Hamilton Street. Police said the woman told them there is a cleaning company in her house and there have been several open houses. Police said there are no suspects or video as evidence.
5:52 p.m. — A suspicious mailman was reported on Northend Avenue.
6:04 p.m. — Intoxicated men were reported on New Derby Street. Police said the people were not intoxicated and they were moved along.
6:06 p.m. — A Meadow Street caller reported a tenant threw bottles and trash from the second floor porch onto his property. Police spoke to the second floor tenant who said he had a party Sunday evening and went to bed while the party continued. He said he would clean up the mess.
6:40 p.m. — Police said a dispute between taxi drivers over cutting in line was reported on Bridge Street.
8:42 p.m. — A bat in the house was reported on Loring Avenue. Police said a "large bat was terminated and removed from the house."
Ericson Ismael Almonte, 19, of 8 Clifton Ave. was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle after a license suspension and speeding.
Tuesday, Aug. 14
12:52 a.m. — A suspicious man throwing items around was reported on Washington Street. Police said the man was intoxicated and he was taken into protective custody.
1:19 a.m. — People being loud outside In a Pig's Eye were reported.
5:45 a.m. — Police responded to Essex Street and spoke to a taxi driver and a customer about an issue with a cab fare.
9:23 a.m. — Police said a person laid out was reported on Canal Street. Police found a man sleeping on the sidewalk. Police said the man had been reported missing in Woburn the day prior.
9:59 a.m. — Threats with a gun were reported on Lafayette Street.
10:55 s.m. — Police responded to Carlton Street on a report a neighbor put something in a mailbox. Police spoke with a man who said he is having ongoing problems with his neighbor putting things in his mailbox. Police said the caller said he doesn't know his neighbors "and the items being left consist of number sequences on paper that have no meaning." The man was told to stop and he said he would. He was also issued a no trespass order.
11:34 a.m. — A vehicle on fire was reported on Valley Street. Police said the operator was not injured. The Salem Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze.
11:58 a.m. — Threats were reported on Bridge Street.
12:26 p.m. — A Bridge Street caller reported her neighbors "had dumped a foul smelling barrel over, which had leaked into her yard." Police said the neighbors cleaned up the mess.
12:33 p.m. — Police said a counterfeit $100 bill was reported on Essex Street.
1:28 p.m. — Police received a call a tip jar was stolen on Boston Street.
2:02 p.m. — A Carlton Street man reported someone moved a plant in his front hallway.
3:25 p.m. — Police said a dog attacking another dog was reported on Skerry Street.
4:31 p.m. — A person clam digging was reported in the North River.
Marcos E. Crespo, 24, of 3 Nichols St. in Chelsea was arrested on charges of operating with a suspended license and speeding.
Peter Joseph Magro, 52, of 43 Boston St. was arrested on a larceny charge.
John James Mizioch, 47, of 62 Bridge St. was arrested on a warrant.
