Police Find Puppies After Call About Possible Drug Activity

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday, Jan. 12

4:25 p.m. — A person told police a room had been rented to two people, but they have not been paying rent and they do not work. The person who reported them said they are in and out of the building and she believes they have something to do with narcotics. Police said there is reportedly only a hot plate in their room and no food. People have also been coming from Lawrence looking for them, police said.

6:20 p.m. — Police were called to check on the well-being of a person at the shelter. Police spoke to a man who was highly intoxicated, and he was taken into protective custody.

6:22 p.m. — Police responded to Lawrence Street on a call about a custody dispute over a dog.

6:34 p.m. — Juan Reynoso (see below) was arrested on Fairfield Street after police said they saw him pass two vehicles on the right. When officers were trying to pull him over, they said he slowed, but would not come to a full stop. Instead, police said he turned right, but continued to travel for two-tenths of a mile before stopping even though he had multiple opportunities to do so. Police also found a knife on Reynoso that violated the city knife ordinance.

7:19 p.m. — A person sleeping near the ATM on Central Street was reported to police. Two people were sleeping in the foyer area of the ATM trying to warm up, police said. They were sent on their way and told not to return.

7:31 p.m. — Police said a woman called with information about a possible rental scam. The victim told the officer she wired $85 to a person in Nigeria after she saw an apartment on Lafayette Street listed on Craigslist. She sent the money at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and later found out a scam had been going on at that address.

11:49 p.m. — Police responded to Pope Street on a domestic, but when they responded, a woman said there were just three people in her apartment, her kids were sleeping and someone has been calling the police on her for no reason.

Thursday Arrests

Giordano Encarnacion, 72, of 12 Pope St., was arrested on a warrant.

Samuel James Maynard, 23, of 158A Lafayette St., was arrested for speeding and operating a vehicle after a license suspension.

Alexander Perez, 27,  of 27 Linden St., in Lynn, was arrested on a warrant.

Juan Reynoso, 44, of 64 Palmer St., was arrested on charges of violating the city knife ordinance, failing to stop for police and passing where prohibited.

Friday, Jan. 13

3:48 a.m. — Music from a Liberty Hill garage was reported to police. The officer said music was coming from the rear of the garage, but not at a volume that was considered loud. Due to the time of day, however, police said the man and his two friends were told to end the gathering for the evening.

9:09 a.m. — A stolen vehicle was reported on Canal Street. Police said a rented vehicle was never returned to Hertz after it was supposed to be back on Dec. 23, 2011. Police said a be-on-the-lookout was issued for the car.

11:12 a.m. — A motor vehicle break-in was reported in the Klop Alley parking lot. Police said a woman reported she found the rear passenger window of her vehicle smashed. A red computer bag with a computer and papers were taken, police said.

11:17 a.m. — Police received a call about possible activity involving drugs on North Street by McGlew Park. Police said there was no problem; people were just looking at puppies that one of their dogs had recently delivered.

11:30 a.m. — Trespassers on Boston Street were reported. Police said they were moved along.

12:18 p.m. — Police said a tree fell on a car at Broad Street and Dalton Parkway. Police said the vehicle was heavily damaged.

12:30 p.m. — Hypodermic needles in the sand near the water on Fort Avenue were reported to police. The officer was unable to locate them.

12:48 p.m. — An intoxicated man was reported at Lifebridge. He was taken into protective custody.

12:59 p.m. — Police received a call that a tree took down wires on Japonica Avenue.

1:00 p.m.  — A tree limb hanging was reported on Herbert Street. Police said the Department of Public Works was notified to handle the issue.

1:08 p.m. — Police received a call about a fight in the street on Lawrence Street. The caller reported people had baseball bats. When officers arrived, there were no weapons, but there were a few people yelling back and forth. The people were identified. A man told police a woman and here unknown friend have been giving his stepson a hard time over another man. The woman said she went to see a man because she was angry he stopped selling her drugs and wanted to confront him.

1:35 p.m. — People breaking into vehicles were reported at the MBTA lot. Police spoke with the woman who said a man was rummaging through a station wagon, but police did not find anything on him. The man, identified as Christian Collado (see below), told them he was just looking for change to take the train and saw the vehicle was unlocked, but he wasn't able to find any so he didn't take anything from the vehicle.

1:42 p.m. — A suspicious woman was reported on Highland Avenue. The caller said a woman came to his back door asking for directions to Eastern Avenue in Lynn. The man gave her directions and she left.

I lost my dog last march after having her ten years. I really would like to have one of these puppies. I cannot afford to go to an animal shelter, but would make sure the puppy has all shots and a good home with plenty of love.
