Salem Public Schools Closed Monday, Parking Ban to Continue

The city of Salem announced Sunday that the Snow Emergency Parking Ban will last at least through Monday while crews continue to work to clear city streets.

The snow emergency parking ban is still in effect in Salem and likely will be in place for the next 24 hours to assist public works crews with clearing snow from streets, according to a release issued Sunday afternoon.

City residents with snow requests are encourage to email snow@salem.com.

The announcement also noted that plowing or shoveling snow into the street is a violation of city ordinances and people caught doing it could be fined.

Salem Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 11, to allow for clean up and snow removal at school sites. Please note that any cars parked in school lots need to be removed by 7 a.m. to allow crews to clear these areas.

Trash collection is normal for this week. SSU is planning to open as of right now, but that could change.

Dear Mayor
The plow drivers, most likely, contractors need to be reminded that 3/4 ton trucks with 6'
plows cannot move the amount of snow we received. Please send the cities large trucks to North Salem to push snow banks back and also clear some of the roadways. Most side streets in North Salem look like cow paths with only enough room for people to walk and participate in the newest Salem Game " Avoiding oncoming cars" Trusting nothing will happen until meltdown, I'm still paying my taxes.

You sound as if the Mayor is responsible for 2 ft of snow.

I agree 100% with Harry. Some sidewalks are not shoveled and people have to walk in the street that is narrow. Then idiots go around them and cross lanes into a possible head on collision. The city needs to double there fines and triple there effort in getting these inconsiderate lazy selfish homeowners.
