Generally, the meteorologists do a fine job preparing us for what's to come. But I think after the blizzard, and its consequential issues with plowing, safety and destruction, we're bound to see some over-hyped weather forecasts for the rest of the winter. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

Better a snow emergency parking ban then the absurd common sence limited parking. Asking people to use common sence when it comes to parking is like asking a child to use common sence when deciding how much candy to eat at Halloween. ...pointless.

I think that the forecasters were dead on, last night on Ch.7 they said that the snow would start at 5 and be it heaviest between 8-12 with high winds. And the winds are whipping!

WE NEED THE SNOW

Hey guys! I put this post up this morning at about 6 a.m., when there still were no flurries in the air, no snow on the ground and it appeared as though another winter storm had been a bust (I think we've had two similar let-downs already this winter.) Looking back outside now, I have to admit it is really coming down.

Let's lay off Owen Boss. The post was up before the snow, and importantly, the parking ban went into effect at 8pm -- 12 hours before a single flake appeared. That might have been where the city jumped the gun.

There were flurries downtown yesterday evening, in all fairness, just less than predicted for the first wave of this storm.

Our government is not suppose to cause pain to the people! At 10:30 am this sunday morning a city plow speeding up Grove st. on to Tremont st. bashed the whole snow bank from last weeks storm onto my sidewalk? i am posting pictures and the city will get copies!

I like to follow meteorologist David Epstein - he has a webpage and a fb page called Growing Wisdom. When a weather system is coming through, he gives frequent updates.

I may be the only one who is fine with with the instruction to "use your judgment" while parking. When you parallel park on a snowless day, you have to judge if your car can fit or not. It's the same thing post-blizzard: when you park, decide if you think other cars can still pass.

Salem.patch is giving us a bad backcast on this and may suffer backlash. Most people are glad that they took care of their parking last evening rather leaving the job until Sunday morning.

The forecast-miss actually happened earlier in the week. On Wed & Thurs they were saying there'd be little-no snow this weekend....thought the storm would pass too far out to sea. In reality it tracked closer and we're in a mini-blizzard.

Joseph Edwards, If the City truck unnecessarily did this in front of your home and you were disabled like me you would be mad to! We hardly got snow from this storm and there was no need for the plow to bash last weeks storm onto the sidewalk right up to the wall in front of my house! why don't you check out the picture I posted and see if you would like this done to you!

I prefer to err on the side of caution. Glad to get my car off the street last night. I know it's not easy for everyone. Bottom line: The weather in New England is difficult to predict therefore it gives us something to talk about!

I sympathize Carolyn because I have a similar issue. The plows piled a mountain of snow on my corner then another truck piled another mountain on my cleaned sidewalk and on my front lawn. I have great neighbors who shovel for me because I'm disabled and I also paid to have someone clean the sidewalks. I have photos of the snow and the truck on my lawn dropping the snow. So far I have no clear answer about whether I can be fined for having an uncleared sidewalk. There's no way that piled up snow can be moved, shovels or a snowblower won't dent it. I thought I would take the photos to City Hall tomorrow and see exactly what the law is. Even if I was the Hulk and could move the snow there's no where for it to go except out into the street and that I do know is illegal.

I just took before and after pictures out in front of my house. If the city trucks does what they did this morning "smashing last weeks storm snow banks on the walk again?" I am filing suit for pain and suffering! I would not have care if it were warmer out side because the snow would be easier to move but its freezing out and its not snow being dumped its huge ice boulders that not even a snow blower can break up. Check out the house at 66 Tremont its sad and wrong on the cities part!

Thank you for the information. I will complain and bring this to the city's attention. I do worry about liability, something non home owners don't have to worry about. I would also feel horrible if someone was hurt. I had a neighbor who slipped on a small patch of snow, probably ice beneath it, she fell backward and was seriously brain injured. To the poster who remarked about some snow on a sidewalk not being a big deal, I ask him to remember that when he's old and infirm and a mere walk down the block for some groceries is frightening.
