Man Tells Police He Fell Asleep on Hawthorne Hotel Toilet

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday Feb. 19

4:23 p.m. — A young man on a dirt bike was reported on Marlborough Road. Police were not able to locate the man.

5:21 p.m. — Police received a call someone was locked in at Winter Island Park. The people said they did not know the gate would be locked at 4 p.m. They were let out and the gate was secured once again.

5:33 p.m. — An abandoned bicycle was reported on Pleasant Street.

6:06 p.m. — An attempted robbery with a knife was reported on Park Street. Police said a man reported a youth in a ski mask approached him when he was walking and asked if he had money. When the man said "no," he said the youth brandished a small knife and demanded money again. He said the suspect fled into a driveway on the other side of the street. The suspect was described at 10 to 12-years-old wearing a black ski mask and all black clothing. He was about 4'9" and stocky. Police were not able to locate the suspect.

7:44 p.m. — Police received a noise complaint on Cherry Street. Police said the loud group on the porch that was reported was gone by the time they arrived.

7:58 p.m. — A past assault was reported on Lafayette Street. Police said two women said they were punched by a woman who left the area.

8:54 p.m. — Police received a call about a possibly intoxicated person laid out at Harbor and Congress streets. Police said the person had just dozed off and was sober. He was sent on his way.

9:17 p.m. — Police received a noise complaint from Tremont Street. Police said there was a report of loud music, which came from a birthday party. The resident was advised that there could be further implications if they received more calls.

10:17 p.m. — Malicious destruction to a vehicle was reported on Ocean Avenue West. Police found toilet paper and purple lotion all over a vehicle. The resident said it had just happened, and he didn't see anyone do it. The day prior, the man said someone broke the right rear view mirror of the same car.

10:29 p.m. — A suspicious group in the parking lot of the hospital was reported. The officer who just left the call with the toilet paper on the vehicle, made contact with a group. When the officer asked the group what they were up to, "a voice from the back stated 'we are having a gang banging game,'" police said. At that point, police said the man was advised that he would be in the back of the the cruiser if that was the case. He told the officer "'You don't have the power.'" The man was then ordered to leave Salem Hospital property. Police said the man kept running his mouth, but he left without further incident.

10:38 p.m. — Loud music was reported on Lafayette Street.

11:07 p.m. — Harassment by a neighbor was reported on Boston Street. A woman said her neighbor was yelling at her door and yelling obscenities because of a dispute from that morning involving another neighbor.

Sunday Arrest

James G. Dyke, 34, of 91 Crest Ave. in Chelsea, was arrested on a warrant.

Monday, Feb. 20

1:07 a.m. — An open door was reported on Grove Street. Police said it was secured without incident.

1:51 a.m. — Police said they received a call a man wouldn't leave the bathroom at the Hawthorne Hotel. The night manager said the man had been in the men's room for a period of time and would not come out. Police spoke to the man, and he said he fell asleep on the toilet. A no trespass order was issued.

3:08 a.m. — A suspicious vehicle was reported on Traders Way. Police said a couple was talking in the PetSmart parking lot, and they were sent on their way.

7:49 a.m. — Police responded to the fire at 63 Jefferson Ave.

8:33 a.m. — Police said an officer backed out of a space at the police station and into the push bar of another vehicle. Police said there was no visible damage to one vehicle and there was a dent on the bumper of the other vehicle.

9:32 a.m. — Police arrested Michael McCausland (see below) for trespassing at 116 Lafayette St. Police said McCausland is well aware he has a no trespass order barring him from entering the building, but the manager keeps finding him hiding in common bathrooms and in stairwells.

10:25 a.m. — A syringe was found on Church Street. Police retrieved it, and it was disposed of properly.

12:04 p.m. — A River Street resident reported that someone possibly tried to break into a home. The woman said she was inside her house and she heard someone at the back door. She said she was nursing her son and did not get up right away. Her 2-year-old daughter went to the rear door and saw a man with black hair who said: "Sorry, wrong house," the mother told police. When the mother got up, she didn't find anyone.

12:51 p.m. — Stolen medication was reported on Ocean Avenue.

1:59 p.m. — Police responded to a dispute over equipment on Jefferson Avenue.

Monday, Feb. 20

Christina Marie Kenny, 26, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on a warrant.

Fiorenzo Nico Lecce, 18, of 317 Paradise Rd. in Swampscott, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle after a license suspension and defective equipment.

Michael Joseph McCausland, 33, of 56 Margin St., was arrested on a trespassing charge.

Anthony P. Menici,
who is listed as homeless, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering during the day with intent to commit a crime, malicious destruction of property, possession of burglarious tools, larceny of property over $250 and five counts of receiving stolen property over $250.
