Dissatisfied Customer Assaults Tow Truck Driver

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday, Feb. 9

4:30 p.m. — Police responded to an unknown issue on Dow Street. When they arrived, officers said a woman was "extremely upset and irate." Officers said she had smashed a glass bottle in her room and initially refused to speak with officers. Eventually, police said they learned the woman was upset because she thinks people have been entering her room, touching and taking her things when she isn't home. The woman said a necklace was taken and broken during the day. Police said pieces of it were on the floor. The woman was advised to get a lock for her door and obey the rules of the house.

4:55 p.m. — Credit card fraud was reported on Lynde Street.

5:05 p.m. — A panhandler was reported at Washington and New Derby streets.

5:56 p.m. — A possible dryer fire was reported on Tremont Street. Police assisted the Salem Fire Department, which received the call, but there was no fire.

6:03 p.m. — Two detectives found a purse in an alley across from Central Street. Police said the officer found the purse and items scattered throughout the alley. A victim on scene said some of the belongings belonged to her, but others were missing. The woman said the items were stolen from her while she pumped gas on New Derby Street.

7:11 p.m. — Police received two 911 hangups from Congress Street. Police determined kids had been playing with the phone.

8:48 p.m. — Threats were reported on Loring Avenue. Police said when they arrived, the man told them there were no threats, he was just concerned about someone talking in the hall where he lives.

10:11 p.m. — A loud party was reported on Orchard Street. Police said there were six kids on the first floor, and one was advised to have his friends leave more quietly.

Thursday Arrest

Rita Ann Hogan, 47, of 78 Central St. in Peabody, was arrested on a warrant.

Friday, Feb. 10

2:24 a.m. — Police stopped a man on the James Ayube Bypass Road after they observed him speeding. When they stopped, police said they saw a woman in the back trying to hide a Bud Light. Police said the driver had a slight odor of beer on his breath and admitted to having one beer, but he passed three field sobriety tests and police decided he was not intoxicated. Police said the beer was emptied on scene. The people were advised about the dangers of speeding and operating a vehicle with an open container. The man was issued a $450 citation for speeding and the woman was issued a $500 fine for the open container.

2:40 a.m. — A person in a Beaver Street apartment was reported. When they arrived, police said nobody was in the residence.

2:40 a.m.  — A house party was reported on Geneva Street.

9:17 a.m. — Fraud was reported on Barstow Street.

10:32 a.m. — An intoxicated person was reported on Hawthorne Boulevard. Police said the man was taken into protective custody because he was having trouble walking.

11:23 a.m. — A loose pit bull was reported on Laurent Road.

11:32 a.m. — Possible illegal dumping was reported on Harbor Street.

11:48 a.m. — A man sitting behind a tree was reported on Powder House Lane. Police said the man was waiting for his shift at the hospital and was advised not to wait on school grounds (Collins Middle School).

11:52 a.m. — Two people arguing on Canal Street were reported.

12:11 p.m. — A man in a vehicle for an extended period of time was reported at T.D. Bank. Police said the man told them he had a long night and fell asleep after parking.

12:46 a.m. — Police said a man on First Street reported he was allegedly assaulted. The man who called police works for a towing company. When he went to the location to assist a customer and was in the process of towing the person's car, the employee said another man with the customer "began to berate him [the towing employee] over the way he was doing things." An argument started, and the alleged victim said the man grabbed him by his coat and then pinned him against a car. The customer separated the men and his friend left. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

2:05 p.m. — Another past assault was reported, this time on Washington Street.

3:18 p.m. — An undesirable was reported at the Waterfront Hotel. Police spoke with the manager and he said a certain man keeps coming into the hotel lobby while intoxicated and causing problems. Police said a no trespass order will be issued.

Friday Arrests

Damien Curtis Henderson, 30, of 17 Winter Avenue in Malden, was arrested on a violation of a protective order.

Jillian Kelly-Snow, 20, of 78 Bay View Avenue, was arrested on a warrant.

Rita LeBlanc, 48, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on a warrant.
