Man Crashes Stolen Motorcycle, Flees on Foot

Salem police are looking for a man who reportedly crashed a stolen motorcycle on Boston Street Friday afternoon.

A man evaded Salem police Friday afternoon after allegedly crashing a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle on Boston Street and fleeing the scene on foot.

At 2:24 p.m., police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle on Boston Street.

Witnesses told responding officers that the operator of the motorcycle, described as a 50-year-old white man, lost control of the bike and "dumped it" sending it sliding into a tractor-trailer coming in the opposite direction.

After the accident, the man reportedly retrieved the registration off of the bike and ran off toward Aborn Street, according to the police report

At 3:19 p.m., a woman called police to report that her 2013 Harley Davidson FLHX had been stolen from a parking lot on Bridge Street.

The woman's bike was later determined to be the same one involved in the crash on Boston Street - she told police she kept a spare key to the motorcycle in the saddlebag.

Salem Patch will post additional information as it becomes available.
