Man Tries to Steal MP3 Players, Male Enhancement Pills at WalMart

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, Jan. 9

  • A man in a wheelchair on Highland Avenue was reported at 4:21 p.m. Monday. Police said they were not able to locate him.
  • Police said Lifebridge staff requested a man be served a no trespass order at 4:46 p.m., and said he has been acting out against staff and other residents.
  • Police said a man was arrested at 5:11 p.m. after they received a call from Wal-Mart about a shoplifter with a knife. When they responded, police spoke with the security supervisor who said he saw a man enter the store, open two MP3 players and put them in a shoebox. Then, the security guard said the man wandered the store before opening two more MP3 players and hiding them in his cart. The guard said he also saw the man conceal Extenze male enhancement pills. Just prior to attempting to exit the store, security said the man concealed everything in the a winter hat. The man was in the store an extended period of time and followed security offers to avoid detection, according to police. Chester Peter Szczawinski (see below) was arrested  for allegedly committing the crime.
  • A hypodermic needle at the MBTA station was reported at 6:01 p.m. Police did not find anything out of the ordinary when they arrived.
  • Men loitering by the ATM at Central and Charter streets was reported at 7:50 p.m. Police said the men were moved along, but told to call for assistance if necessary due to the cold.
  • A past motor vehicle break-in was reported on Swampscott Road at 10:04 p.m.

Monday Arrests

  • Chester Peter Szczawinski, 44, of 11 Burke St., in Lynn, was arrested on a charge of larceny of property over $250.

Tuesday, Jan. 10

  • Police responded to Park Street at 3:18 a.m. after a 911 hangup. Police said they spoke to a man who said he was testing his new phone. He was told to use 911 only in emergencies.
  • A three-car crash was reported at Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road at 8:21 a.m.
  • At 8:43 p.m. a past assault was reported on Boston Street. A woman said another woman allegedly threw punches and began banging her head to the ground after they had a dispute about $20 and headphones. The woman had minor scratches on her face and arm, according to officers. Police said the other woman reported an assault as well and said the woman who first called police threw her arms up and asked her if she wanted to fight. She told police she said did not and walked out before she was pushed and the two tussled. Police said there were no marks on the woman who reported the incident second, and she would be summonsed to court for assault and battery.
  • At 10:31 a.m. Police said a Leach Street caller reported her car had been keyed overnight.
  • A woman looking over the railing of the Salem-Beverly Bridge was reported at 10:52 a.m. Police said there were no people on the bridge when they arrived.
  • A person possibly casing a Loring Avenue bank was reported at 11: 33 a.m.
  • William Francisco Jr. (see below) was arrested on multiple charges and warrants at 1 p.m at Bedford and Pierpont streets after police said they saw him walking toward an unknown man. Police said Francisco is a known drug dealer and they had knowledge of warrants. They decided to place him under arrest, and he attempted to run away. Police grabbed him before he could escape and said he refused to place his hands behind his back. Officers said Francisco was trying to place items from his hands into his mouth. Police recovered two bags of heroin, which Francisco had attempted to swallow. The unknown man fled the area.
  • Missing jewelry was reported on Upham Street at 1:34 a.m.

Tuesday Arrests

  • William Francisco Jr., 24, who is listed as homeless in Salem, was arrested on three warrants as well as on charges of possession of a class A drug with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone and resisting arrest.
  • Yajaira Gonzalez, 31, of 22 Park St., was arrested on charges of  trafficking cocaine, trafficking heroin and two counts of possession with intent to distribute in a school zone.
  • Adriana Santana-Mota, 29, of 22 Park St., was arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine, trafficking heroin, resisting arrests and two counts of possession with intent to distribute in a school zone.
