Man Calls Police About Old Navy Phone Calls

An excerpt from the Salem Police Department's Saturday log.

The following is an excerpt from the Saturday log. Police received calls about noise complaints, intoxicated individuals, harassing phone calls and fraud.

  • At 12:58 a.m. Saturday,  police received a call about a cab having issues with customers on Washington Street.
  • Police responded to a noise complaint on Lafayette Street at 1:27 a.m. Saturday. Officers spoke to the responsible party who was advised to keep the noise levels down.
  • Officials received a call about suspicious, possibly intoxicated males on Lafayette Street at 3:06 a.m. Police said they were able to find the vehicle in question, and there was a male in the back of the vehicle using his shirt as a blanket. The male said the car belonged to his friends and he was sleeping in it until he sobered up. The man was placed in protective custody.
  • Patrolmen Gonzalez and Olivieri responded to Leach Street at 6:24 a.m. Saturday after it was reported a suspicious male was trying to gain access to a cellar. Police said the caller reported she heard someone banging on the door and saw a white male in his 20s with a baseball cap trying to open the cellar. The male told the female he had left items in the cellar and was trying to retrieve them. While on the scene, officers observed a male who fit the description several houses down. Police said they heard yelling and knocking on a window. Police said they heard glass break and then saw the male trying to leave through a backyard. Justin Philbrook, 29, of 67 Palmer St., was arrested on charges of trespassing and malicious destruction of property over $250.
  • At 2:07 p.m. Saturday, police said a party reported she dropped a small holder with credit cards and identification near on Washington Street. The party told officials the cards were used fraudulently before she could cancel them. Charges were made at . Another charge was made to a card for T-Mobile minutes.
  • Police responded to Lemon Street at 4:55 p.m. Saturday after a resident reported he received harassing phone calls. Police said the male reported he keeps receiving calls from Old Navy credit and other 800 numbers looking for someone else. Police told the male the matter was not a criminal one and advised him to contact his carrier to block the numbers.
  • At 6:31 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the tunnel on Bridge Street after officials said they received a report of a man sleeping inside a tunnel. Police said the officer walked the tunnel from end to end, but was unable to find anyone in it.
  • Police received a call about teenagers in the graveyard on Howard Street at 7:35 p.m. Saturday.
  • At 8:58 p.m. Saturday, police received a call about an undesirable male on Salem Street. Police said it was reported a party's boyfriend's brother was "flipping out in his bedroom and damaging his own property," after a verbal dispute. Police said they assisted the people and the male left for the evening.
  • Police responded to Broad Street at 10:25 p.m. Saturday after it was reported a car alarm was sounding for over 30 minutes.

Also on Saturday:

  • Police arrested Brent Searles, 40, of 21 Kimbal Road, in Amesbury, on three charges of assault and battery, threatening to commit a crime and intimidation of a witness.
  • Michael Jason White, 29, of 208 Main St., in North Reading, was arrested on two warrants.
