Man Asks for Sex on Derby Street
The following was provided by the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday, Aug. 20
4:15 p.m. — A telephone scam was reported on Greenway Road. Police said the caller reported someone called him posing as an officer from the Salem Police Department and the Salem Police Department's number showed up on the caller ID. The man said the caller told him he owed money, and he hung up. Police said the man was called back, and he hung up again. Police told the man not to speak with the caller.
4:35 p.m. — Graffiti was reported at Webb Street.
4:50 p.m. — Graffiti under the overpass was reported on Bridge Street.
5:23 p.m. — Newborn kittens were found on Essex Street.
8:47 p.m. — Police responded to the area of Wendy's on a report a man was possibly exposing himself to children on the South Harbor Walkway. Police said as a result of an investigation, Xavier Marquez (see below) was arrested.
9:26 p.m. — A suspicious man wandering around was reported at Lafayette and Dow streets, but police weren't able to find anyone.
9:53 p.m. — A wallet was found on Washington Street.
11:10 p.m. — Loud music at a camp site was reported on Winter Island.
11:47 p.m. — A Victory Road caller reported there were two suspicious men on her front porch.
Monday Arrests
Paul Bryant Woolley, 44, 116 Lafayette St. was arrested on a warrant.
Xavier Maquez, 47, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on charges of violating the city's public drinking ordinance and lewd and lascivious behavior.
Laurie Eto Jenkins, 44, of 290 Washington St. was arrested on a warrant.
Tuesday, Aug. 21
1:36 a.m. — A man soliciting sex was reported on Derby and Wharf streets. Police said a man told him he was solicited for sex. The man said the person in question was approximately 30 years old and "new age or gothic looking." The caller said the man asked if he wanted to engage in sexual activity. When the man told him "no," the suspect drove down Derby Street toward downtown, police said.
6:18 a.m. — Early construction was reported on Canal Street.
8:56 a.m. — A suspicious person was reported on Andrew Street, but police said it was just a paint crew.
9:49 a.m. — A stolen camera was reported on Charter Street.
10:58 a.m. — Police said a phone scam was reported on Aurora Lane.
1:08 p.m. — A possibly stolen stroller was reported at North and Mason streets. Police said the stroller was found in brush over the line in Peabody. Police said the stroller "was loaded with spiders, leaves and rain water."
1:17 p.m. — Police said an undesirable sleeping in the woods was reported on North Street.
Tuesday Arrests
Yanivel Gomez, 17, of 124 Lynnfield St. in Peabody was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle without being licensed.
William Bruce Damon III, 31, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on an assault and battery charge.
