Man Arrested After Albion Street Break-In

Police said a neighbor watched the entire break-in in broad daylight.

A man was arrested Monday afternoon after police say a witness saw him break into a home in daylight and leave with a bag full of items that he didn't enter with.

Anthony P. Menici, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering during the day with intent to commit a crime, malicious destruction of property, possession of burglarious tools, larceny of property over $250 and five counts of receiving stolen property over $250.

At 12:32 p.m., the Salem Police Department was alerted to a house break-in on Albion Street.

The witness, who lives across the street, said he saw a man kick in the side door of the residence across the street. The witness then told police he saw the man "exit the home carrying a white colored bag in addition to the backpack he was carrying when he went into the house."

Police said the witness told them he saw the man jump over a chain-link fence in the rear of the home.

Multiple units responded to search for the suspect. After a brief investigation, the suspect was found and apprehended on Scotia Street — just one street over from Albion Street.

The witness was able to positively identify Menici as the man who he saw kick in the door and leave the home with a bag full of items he had not entered with.

Police said the bag was found in the rear yard of an Albion Street home and it contained jewelry, a laptop, jeans, a DVD player and camera.

Police also found a backpack "and a police type scanner hand-held radio."
Menici identified himself and was arrested.

The Albion Street resident was notified. She was able to confirm that the items in the bag belonged to her.

While back at the station, an inventory of Menici's property was conducted. Police said they found four GPS units in the backpack and IDs that belonged to a Beverly woman. A report had been filed in Beverly and the woman whose IDs were located said her unlocked vehicle had been entered on Feb. 18 and her wallet taken, officers said.

Police also found a flashlight, screwdrivers and Craftsman gloves in Menici's possession.

Several other times included jewelry and sunglasses will be held by police for possible future identification.

Salem Patch, Can we get a picture of this perp?
The picture should be made available so that neighbors can keep an eye out for these people in the future. I think that anyone who breaks into somebody's home needs to face the harshest penalties.
The personal violation that occurs during a house break is terrible and needs to be taken more serious by our court systems. Let’s lock this guy up for a long time and hopefully set an example for anybody else who would consider this type of crime.
