A major water break in the Pope/Proctor Street area was reported Wednesday afternoon and was still in the process of repair early Thursday morning, according to the Salem Fire Department.

SFD responded to the scene Wednesday afternoon, and the Department of Public Works was informed of the incident. Department of Public Works crews were still on scene early Thursday and working to repair the break, according to the Fire Department Facebook page.

The crews were intending to work through the night to restore water service to the area, according to reports.
