Lynn Man Shot and Arrested in One Night

The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Tuesday, April 24

5:42 p.m. — A man banging on a door was reported on Canal Street. Police said they weren't able to find anyone around.

6:49 p.m. — Police said a dog bite was reported on Tremont Street. The caller said that he was bitten by a large collie at the corner of Buffum and School streets. The man obtained a name of the dog's owner, but police were not able to contact him.

7:05 p.m. — An intoxicated man who was swaying and having trouble speaking was taken into protective custody on Margin Street.

7:41 p.m. — Items falling off a truck were reported at Loring Avenue and Cedar Avenue. Police said an officer found a door in the roadway. It was removed. 

8:18 p.m. — Loud music was reported on Salem Street. 

8:44 p.m. — Police received a call a motorcycle fell over in the area of Loring and Jefferson avenues. The driver was not injured and said he fell over while sitting in traffic. The bike incurred minor scratches, police said. 

10:09 p.m. — A person throwing fireworks was reported at Washington and New Derby streets. The person was gone by the time police arrived. 

Tuesday Arrests

Michael Politano Jr., 30, of 2.5 Beckett St., was arrested on charges of violation of a protective order, breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a crime, possession of burglarious tools and larceny from a building. 

Tomeka Marie Latimer, 36, of 322 Walnut St., in Lynn, was arrested on a charge of violation of a protective order. 

Wednesday, April 25

12:31 a.m. — Loud music was reported on Washington Street. 

12:41 a.m. — A person "wielding what was originally reported as a machete" was reported on Lafayette Street. Police spoke to a woman who said she came out of the common bathroom and saw a man "looking out from his room toward her, waving a 'large knife.'" The woman said she went to her room and called the police and the man kicked her door twice and was screaming. The woman said she didn't know what the man was saying because he was intoxicated. Victor Martinez (see below) was arrested as a result of the incident. 

2:48 a.m. — A possible gunshot victim was reported at Center. Police said the person had a gunshot wound in the upper right arm with an entrance and exit wound. The man said at 11 p.m. on April 24 he was in Boston when a vehicle with three occupants drove by him and he was shot. Police said after the man was treated he was taken into protective custody due to his intoxication. After he was fingerprinted, police said they learned the man's name was actually Arsensio Valldares (see below) and he had four warrants. He was arrested on the warrants and additionally charged with giving a false name to the officer during the investigation of his shooting. 

9:22 a.m. — Glass in the road was reported at Loring Avenue and Leggs Hill Road.  

10:35 a.m. — Four or five hypodermic needles in a crosswalk at Washington and Canal streets were reported to police. An officer retrieved and disposed of the needles.

1:55 p.m. — Kids possibly smoking marijuana were reported on First Street. Police said the kids were not smoking marijuana.

2:55 p.m. — Police said a possible illegal tattoo parlor was reported on Ward Street. A woman said her 15-year-old daughter came home with a tattoo. The woman said she never authorized or signed permission slips for her daughter. The daughter said she got the tattoo from someone who lives on Ward Street. 

Wednesday Arrests

Aresenio Valladares, 31, of 44 Cedar St., in Lynn, was arrested on four warrants. He was also charged with giving a false name to a police officer. 

Justin Michael Smith, 24, of 21 Essex St., was arrested on a temporary warrant. 

Curtis Perry McDermott, 20, of 13 Palmer St., was arrested on a temporary warrant. 

Victor R. Martinez, 60, of 335 Lafayette St., was arrested on a charge of assault by a dangerous weapon. 

Brian Guy Hurley, 50, of 7 Ray St., in Danvers, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery of an elder or disabled person.
