Children Left in Locked Car at Market Basket
Police said the Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident that took place at Market Basket.
Police said a toddler and infant were left alone in a locked Toyota while their mother was shopping in Market Basket Sunday evening.
At 5:20 p.m., police said they received a call about children left unattended.
When the officer arrived, he observed a completely locked Toyota with two kids inside. A boy was awake drinking juice, police said, and a girl was sleeping.
The officer had the Market Basket staff page the license plate in the store. Moments later, police said, a woman ran out of the store "very scared."
The woman told police the kids were hers and "stated both kids were sleeping and she did not want to wake them," police said. The officer advised the woman of the consequences of leaving kids in the car.
Police said the woman "appeared to be very shameful." The officer said she did not make eye contact with the officer and looked as though she was crying.
The Department of Children and Families was notified, police said.
This isn't the first time children were left unattended in the Market Basket parking lot, according to police.
Police responded to a similar call in June.
