Is Rob Zombie's 'The Lords of Salem' Done?

It's been seven months since Rob Zombie

So, what's going on with the movie? Is it done?

The short answer is no. The film is not complete.

We scoured sources to find out what's been going on with the film to give you a production timeline. Here's what we were able to find in all the internet buzz:

Filming on Zombie's flick, which chronicles the drama that ensues when a coven of witches comes to town after "a local DJ… mistakenly unleashes a hellish curse," originally began in October, 2011, according to Famous Monsters of Filmland.

On November 19, at the Pier, Greenlawn Cemetery, the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall, the , and a home on Essex Street by Hamilton Street.

Currently, the film is in post-production, according to IMDb, which gives no further information about the release date or current details about the progress of the film. 

But, Zombie and Zombie fans have been releasing some tidbits about the film's progress around the net.

Zombie reportedly gave fans a sneak peak a trailer at performances this spring.  Users uploaded the showings, including one at the show in Scranton, PA on May 12, to YouTube (find the link attached to this article).

The end of the trailer indicates the film is "Rising 2012."

June has brought even more internet buzz on the film. On June 8, Zombie stated on his Facebook page that the the film wasn't yet finished.

"I had to take a break due to the Megadeth tour and a few other things. I will be returning to work on the film in July to finish it up," he explained on his page.

Despite the hiatus, plenty of interviews with Zombie on the film have emerged.

On June 13, Artisan News Service released a video interview with Zombie on its YouTube page. Zombie told the outlet that inspiration from the film came from the witch trials.

After learning about the history of Salem he said he wondered: "What if some of the people weren't innocent, what if some of the people executed were actually witches?" Zombie told Artisan News he "took the actual facts [from the Witch Hysteria history] and perverted them."

Zombie also told Artisan News The Lords of Salem is "gigantic" compared to his other films, and he called the approach to the film "grand."

Also in June, a short film of Maria Conchita Alonso on the set of The Lords of Salem was uploaded to Youtube. Zombie acknowledged the behind the scenes footage on his Facebook page.

Most recently, the film made headlines when actor Richard Lynch, who plays Rev. John Hawthorne in the film, according to his IMDb profile, died at age 76 in California.

The New York Daily News announced Lynch's June 20 death on Thursday.

"I woke up this morning to the news that our friend RICHARD LYNCH has passed away." Zombie wrote on his official Facebook page. "Richard was great to work with and really gave it his all…He will be missed," Zombie said.

Right now, it seems like Zombie is aiming for 2012 though Artisan News Service made mention of a possible early 2013 release date in its video interview.
