Woman Takes Cat for Coffee at Dunkin' Donuts
The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday, Jan. 24
4:10 p.m. — A Hancock Street resident told police she is having issues with neighbors who are allegedly throwing cigarette butts in her yard and constantly making noise. The woman also said the neighbors are always smoking marijuana outside the house. The woman was advised to call police if she observes suspicious activity.
4:10 p.m. — An Oakland Street resident reported identity theft. A woman told police she has been filing reports about the issue. On that particular night, the woman said an unauthorized call was made from her home the day prior. She also said someone has been entering her home to use the phone and that person has been rearranging furniture. Police said there are no suspects or signs of forced entry and the woman thinks someone has a key.
4:29 p.m. — Police responded to a harassment call on Pope Street. A woman said she is being harassed by another woman in the complex and said the woman is spreading rumors about her. The other woman said she is not spreading rumors and the woman's mother said the woman who called police always calls the cops on her daughter when she is on the first floor visiting her friend.
4:32 p.m. — A panhandler in the median at Washington and New Derby streets was reported to police.
4:43 p.m. — Police said a past break-in was reported on Grove Street.
5:15 p.m. — Officers responded to the MBTA station after they received a call about an unruly passenger on the train. Police said they spoke to a woman who was on the train without money to proceed. Officers said she refused to speak with MBTA staff and refused to return to her seat. The woman was escorted off the train and was transported to Lynn after it was determined she was not intoxicated.
6:03 p.m. — Police received a call from a woman who said she and her husband have both been receiving harassing phone calls. The woman said the unknown caller who is a woman, has been accusing her of being romantically involved with her boyfriend or husband. The woman who called police said the other woman is making threats and said she knows nothing about what the caller is talking about.
7:39 p.m. — A man was taken into protective custody after police received a call about a man on the side of the road, and he was determined to be intoxicated.
7:51 p.m. — A needle on the sidewalk was reported at Boston and Essex streets. Police said it was retrieved and disposed of property.
8:35 p.m. — Police received a call about a fight among woman at Salem Heights.
8:51 p.m. — A man was taken into protective custody at Taste of Asia after police said he refused to pay his bill.
9:03 p.m. — Police responded to Surrey Road on a report that a person came to the door. A man said a woman came to his door looking for a man named Larry. The man said he didn't know the woman and told her that nobody by that name lived there. The man also said that the woman informed him she used to work as a home health aid for Larry's mother. The man said he thinks the woman might have been looking for a man who used to live at that address by the name of Barry.
9:05 p.m. — Police received a call about a fire outside on Cushing Street. The caller said several kids had started the fire. Police said there were no kids when they arrived, but there was a man cooking steak on a contained charcoal grill.
10:22 p.m. — A man came to the station to report that a security guard at Loring Towers has been following him.
Tuesday Arrest
Rafael Ramirez, 18, of 44 Park St., was arrested on a warrant.
Wednesday, Jan. 24
12:35 a.m. — Larceny of porch furniture was reported on Mason Street. A man said two men came onto his porch and took a couch and loveseat. The man said both items were supposed to be put out on the sidewalk on trash pickup day.
8:17 p.m. — Police received a call that an "inflatable Patriots guy" was stolen from a Derby Street lawn. The caller said an unknown person took a three-foot inflatable player valued at $75 from the front of the home. Police said there were no suspects.
10:09 a.m. — An intoxicated man on the ground in front of Steve's Market was reported. A witness said he saw the man slowly fall to the ground in the crosswalk and crawl to the sidewalk. The man was placed into protective custody.
11:48 p.m. — Larceny of a package was reported on Forrester Street.
1:38 p.m. — Police received a call about a woman with a cat at the Washington Street Dunkin' Donuts. Police said the woman was told she could not have her cat in the restaurant. She then mumbled something and left, police said.
2:41 p.m. — Police received a call about a panhandler in traffic at Washington and New Derby Streets.
3:12 p.m. — A Federal Street caller said the U.S. Census Bureau has been harassing her by calling her repeatedly.
3:32 p.m. — A man selling steaks was reported on Rawlins Street.
Wednesday Arrests
Anthony E. Jackson, 20, of 2 Saint James Pl., in Boston was arrested on three warrants.
Brian C. Cox, 31, of 58 Leach St., was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle without an inspection sticker and operating a vehicle with a revoked license.
