IMAGE GALLERY: First Muster at Salem Common

Photos from City's commemoration of the first Salem Muster.

The country's first militia mustered on in 1637, the start of what would become the National Guard.

Saturday, residents witnessed a re-enactment and commemoration of that first muster, including a band, Howitzer cannons and military formations. Members of the 101s  Field Artillery Regiment, the Massachusetts National Lancers, the Second Parish Minutemen, the Salem Trayned Band and others participated, each playing a historic role.
