Healthworks Fitness Center's Salem location is slated to close on April 30 after 33 years in business, according to an email sent to members this morning.

In the message, President Mark Harrington said the scheduled closing is due to "economic challenges and other considerations."

The closure will not be an easy one considering the club's history in Salem, Harrington explained.

"The Healthworks Salem location has always been very special to the Healthworks family as it was the first club built and the origin of our brand," Harrington wrote.

"We have touched three generations, providing excellent service and innovative fitness programming to a great community, and for that we are very proud."

Harrington told members they would be assisted in arranging their final payment and settling unused sessions or services balances.
