'Ghost' Sucker Punches Man in Head

The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, April 23

4:01 p.m. — Larceny from a vehicle on Columbus Avenue was reported to police.

5:04 p.m. — An elderly man walking was reported at Canal and Laurel streets.

5:42 p.m. — A First Street woman told an officer she lost her green card in Lynn.

5:48 p.m. — A Mason Street caller reported someone stole checks and electronics from an apartment. 

6:02 p.m. — Michael Waselchuck and Michael Connors (see below) were arrested after police said they were trespassing in the tunnel. 

6:44 p.m. — An injured dog was reported at Webb and Pickman streets. Police said they received several 911 calls about the dog. The officer responded and there was a crowd gathered around the dog. The officer said the canine was not injured. A woman told police the owner lives on Webb Street. Police were able to contact the owner and she was reunited with the pooch — an 18-year-old dog named Stevie. 

9:08 p.m. — A "single, loud pop" was reported on Leach Street. Police said the noise was believed to be fireworks. 

9:23 p.m. — An Eden Street resident reported an attempted break-in.

10:36 p.m. — Flames on a rear porch on Buffum Street were reported. Police said there was no issue; a resident had a grill.

Monday Arrests

Rafael Brito Barreto, 27, of 72 Walnut St., in Peabody, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle without being licensed and a marked lanes violation. 

Michael R. Connors, 24, of 3 Hardy St., was arrested on charges of trespassing, tagging property and vandalism. 

Lydia Jamina, 19, of 54 Perkins St., was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and assault by a dangerous weapon. 

Tomeka Marie Latimer, 36, of 43 Dow St., was arrested on a charge of violation of a protective order. 

Nicholas Austin Mann, 27, of 421 Essex St., was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of liquor (second offense)

Michael A. Waselchuck, 23, of 148 Essex St., in Swampscott, was arrested on charges of trespassing, tagging property and vandalism. He was also arrested on a warrant. 

Tuesday, April 24

12:02 a.m. — Police received a call about a past simple assault on Ocean Avenue. A man told place he was assaulted in his home by an unknown man. The man said his friend was over and had a man with her. The man said he was sitting on his bed looking at his computer when the unknown man approached him and "sucker punched him in the side of the head." Police said the man received a small cut over his eye. The alleged victim said the man told him "his name was 'Ghost' and then he ran out of his apartment." The woman told the victim the man's last name. Police told the man to call back if he can find out more. 

4:24 a.m. — A purse was found at in the Willows.

4:30 a.m. — A woman screaming "Oh my God, oh my God," was reported on Wheatland Street. Police said they found three people "who were sitting around the kitchen table playing no limit Texas Hold 'Em." A woman told police "the yelling may have been from her as she was disappointed in the fact that her hand was not to her liking." Police told the people to shut off the music and end the gathering. 

8:20 a.m. — Police received a call a man was pleasuring himself in a vehicle. Police said they spoke to the man and he said he was tired and he had pulled over to rest. Police said there was no evidence of indecent activity. 

8:32 a.m. — Larceny of a package was reported on Lafayette Street.

8:58 a.m. — A past break-in to a vehicle was reported on Boardman Street. 

9:28 a.m. — A stolen rabbit was reported on North Street.

9:54 a.m. — Police said a brick was thrown through a window on Brown Street. 

11:19 a.m. — A dump truck backed into a Salem Police Department cruiser at Derby and Carlton streets. 

1:17 p.m. — The Salem Police and responded to a small bush/mulch fire on Traders Way.  

1:58 p.m. — A stolen wallet was reported on Fort Avenue. 

2:32 p.m. — Lights knocked down by a motorist were reported at Lafayette Street and Ocean Avenue. 

5:16 p.m. — A rock thrown through a window was reported on Wharf Street. 

Tuesday Arrests 

Curtis Prince Lomax, 46, of 784 Massachusetts Ave., was arrested on a warrant.

Sasha Sharily Pimental, 19, of 39 Hancock St., was arrested on a warrant. 

Michael Politano Jr., 30, of 2.5 Becket St., was arrested on a charge of violation of a protective order. 

Tonya L. Scheller, 38, of 91 Portsmouth Ave., in Greenland, NH, was arrested on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
