'Gallon Smashing' Incident at Salem Shaw's

'Gallon smashing' is the latest viral trend sweeping the nation and Salem police officers responded to an incident at the local Shaw's Monday.

You may not have heard of gallon smashing but if you take a look at the Youtube video attached to this post, you'll know pretty much all there is to know.

Gallon-smashing is a new viral video trend that is sweeping the internet, where people go into supermarkets and film themselves pretending to fall while smashing one or two gallons of milk.

At 11:01 a.m. Monday, Salem police responded to a "gallon smashing incident" at the Shaw's Supermarket on Traders Way.

A loss prevention manager told responding officers that four girls were recorded on the market's surveillance cameras entering the store, heading for the dairy section and grabbing a couple of gallons of milk.

One of the girls reportedly smashed two milk gallons in one of the aisles and pretended to slip and fall in the milk while one of her friends filmed the whole thing with her cell phone.

The loss prevention manager turned surveillance footage of the incident over to police in the hopes that still images can be pulled for identification purposes.

What do you think of this new "gallon-smashing" trend?

I think all you are doing is promoting it by posting anything about it. Don't give it the attention the perps are looking for.

Disgusting!
Thanks for showing us what's happening. The kids obviously know about it already and this certainly isn't promoting it MM. It's to help us adults be aware of what's happening. These kids are hurting all of us because the cost will just be added to prices that are high already.

It's not funny. It's dangerous for the other shoppers AND, quite honestly, it's theft. Theft of the gallons of product and theft of insurance money (if the perpetrator makes a claim), etc. Definitely disgusting. Glad it's being videoed to show it for the scam that it is.

Do something horrible to these people and have the same internet spread the word. "Did you hear about Brad? He has to spend every Saturday night for the next year cleaning the floor of the Salem police station with a toothbrush."

It's no wonder that our young Service men and women come home from Iraq or Afghanistan and have trouble fitting back into society. They have trouble relating to their peers that are busy doing things like this. Our younger "Me Generation" have no social values at all. I agree with "let the punishment fit the crime." These idiots should have to clean up graffiti, highways and parks.

These low life girls are all over our schools. Thats why I home school my kids. But society treats this stuff too lightly. It's theft, fraud, endangerment, juvenile delinquency and bad parents. And all they get is a little bad girl slap on the wrist.

I really shouldn't say this but I almost wish that one of these girls broke a limb so they can at least learn a lesson. Then after that give them community service for a year. It's disgusting how obnoxious and disrespectful these teenagers are of other people's property. This stupid "gallon smashing" thing will hopefully fade away when these kids realize there's consequences to their behavior, something their own parents should have bern teaching them.
