Fran and Diane's Delivery Driver Assaulted
Officers arrested Timothy P. Gokey Jr. after they say a man was assaulted while delivering food.
A Salem man was arrested on multiple charges Sunday afternoon after police said he assaulted a food delivery driver from Fran and Diane's Kitchen.
Timothy P. Gokey Jr., 28, of 9 Laurent Rd. in Salem was arrested on two charges of assault and battery by a dangerous weapon on a victim over 60, assault and battery of an elder or disabled person and malicious destruction of property in connection with the incident.
At 4:14 p.m. Monday, the Salem Police received a call about a fight on Laurent Road.
Four officers responded to the scene.
When they arrived, police said a man was bleeding heavily from his face with a cut to the left eye and nose. Police said he also had scrapes to his head.
The man said he was making a delivery from Fran and Diane's Kitchen. He told police he walked up the stairs at 9 Laurent Rd. He was under the impression the home was a dual family home. With that thought in mind, when he did not get an answer, he tried to open the door thinking he would end up in a common hallway, police said.
At that point, a man, later identified as Timothy P. Gokey Jr., came to the door and said "Why are you trying to open my door? I told you to hold on." The victim said he left the front porch and walked down the stairs, police said.
Officers said Gokey followed the man to the street and allegedly punched the victim in the face before slamming him into his vehicle.
Police said a dent was seen on one of the vehicle panels.
Police said the the victim was then allegedly "slammed to the ground causing several scrapes to [his] head."
The victim said he did not assault his alleged attacker.
Police spoke with Gokey who said: "I am sick of delivery people opening my door."
When asked what happened, police said Gokey told them he ordered delivery from Fran and Diane's. The driver tried to open the front door, but it was locked. Then, Gokey said, the delivery driver assaulted him.
When asked why he did not call the police, Gokey said "I was defending myself."
An officer asked Gokey how he was defending himself by punching the man and slamming him onto the street. He said the delivery driver slammed him to the ground.
Witnesses said they heard loud yelling, and when they looked out their window They saw Gokey "without a shirt, on top of [the victim]." Then, he stood up and walked onto his porch.
The man then took several minutes to get up, witnesses said, adding that he was dazed and they were surprised he refused to go to the hospital.

This guy Gokey has tons of priors for assaults and the system let's him out to reoffend. This guy comes from a family with a long history of drugs alcohol and sexual abuse. Get him off the streets and get him anger management and psychiatric treatment. As a grandmother myself I'm concerned for public safety.

Snews tweeted something about Mr Gokey Jr being held at court today. Maybe because of all his priors? Any new info Patch can share? This creep is accused of a very violent crime, I would like to have this case get more attention if possible. Fran & Diane's is a great place and they seem like good people.

I dont like to toot my own horn but for some time I have been criticized about my negative outlook on Salem. These last few days have shown that many people are seeing what I have been seeing for years. This city is in big trouble. In my 30 years as a homeowner and 50+ as a resident things have never been worse. It is looking like Salem is becoming a trap with no way out. If you look at the number of homes ,in Salem , for sale it speaks volumes.

I thought about selling the home we live in a few years back, when the market was up and just keeping our rental properties. We still love living here but I can't help thinking it would have been better for us if we had sold.

If all the people who really love and care about Salem move away, then we are really in trouble. I'm just going to keep working towards making my community better.
My first step will be to never deliver food from my restaurant to this dude's house.

It's not the people moving out but the people moving in. Laurent road is considered one of the better parts of Salem. How sad.

We have known tim for many years. Despite problems in the past, Tim has become a fine young man, He is hard working, respectful and always there to help. This incident was blown out of proportion, It may have been a chance to get some free advertising, People look around - worse alleged crimes are being commitedand little to no attention is being paid to these. Horrible comments are made by people who have just know one side of the incident and the parties involved. Some have told lies and changed the story time after time. Tim has a witness who was given a very short chance to talk, Take a good look at your own lives. What gives any person a right to judge Tim not even knowing him or the incident that happened. What if this was you or your family or your friend?

Unfortunately some of us commenting here do know Tim and his family. We also know him to still be the same person doing the same things and he is nothing like you described. If he is released I hope that the SPD orders all the firearms removed from his address. Free advertising, Are you joking? Hopefully Jr finally has to answer for his despicable actions and gets the help he needs. Fran & Diane have a great place, their food is all the advertising they need.
