Flash Flood Warning Issued for Friday Evening
Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall rates are headed toward Salem, which has prompted a flood warning.
A flash flood warning is now in effect for Salem until 10 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning was issued because of the heavy rain moving across the area as part of thunderstorms. The storms are headed northward and have already dropped one to two inches of rain in a short period of time, the weather service said.
The warning, which was issued at 5:55 p.m. on Friday, includes all of Essex County.
“Already reports have been received of roads becoming inundated with several inches of water in a very short period of time,” the weather service said in issuing the warning. “Flash flooding of small streams and urban areas is occurring or imminent.”
The weather service said that anyone near a stream or creek that is prone to flooding should head to higher ground. Drivers should avoid roads that are flooded, too.

tide is going out right now, but 613 was high tide, so the storm water drains are sort of full from the ocean (in some neighborhoods... I'm looking at you Bridge Street Neck)
Good luck everyone.

Well, that is my house in the picture, (from last Oct). and luckily tonight was nothing like that morning! We won't soon forget the 4 feet of water in all our basements! The street DID flood, but he city came and helped pump out what came up through the drains. Still, we've had around 3-4 months or digging and construction that I thought was to solve these kinds of issues. I see a lot of lines and markings still on the street, which I guess means we have a ways to go.

Doug . You may see SOME relief ,but don't expect a solution . After all these locations are just above sea level .
