Council Approves $1.9M Bertram Field Project

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Friday, May 10, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It should be a beautiful day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be mostly sunny with a high near 67. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. (sunrise, 5:26 a.m.; low tide, 6:08 a.m.; high tide, 12:26 p.m.; sunset, 7:53 p.m.)

2. At their meeting at City Hall Thursday night, Salem City Council members approved the appropriation of $1.9 million for the Bertram Field Renovation Project - which means it will be officially green-lighted if it is approved at second reading in two weeks.

3. It looks like there's a new boutique coming to Derby Street in Salem! The boutique Etoile, which sells children's clothing, is moving in at 318 Derby St., according to a sign recently posted in the front window. Click Here for our full story!

4. Salem High School's varsity softball team will host Winthrop High School under the lights tonight at Mack Park. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., so consider stopping by to cheer them on!

5. Today in History: On May 10, 1775, a small Colonial militia led by Ethan Allen and Colonel Benedict Arnold captured Fort Ticonderoga.
