FILING UPDATE: 10 At-Large Candidates in the Running

A look at the most up-to-date information on how the City election is shaping up.

The Councilor-At-Large race is heating up.

Since our last update, two candidates who were gunning for ward postions have decided to place their bets on an At-Large position.

Matthew Richard originally filed to run against incumbent Robert K. McCarthy and newcomer Doug Sarno in Ward 1. Matthew Fraser originally signed on to face Ward 2's incumbent Councilor Michael Sosnowski. Both are putting their bets on City-wide representation.

Darek Barcikowski has also joined the race for Councilor-At-Large, bringing the field up to 10 candidates vying for four positions.

Incumbent Paul Prevey also gained a competitor since our last update. Charles Walsh is now in the running for his chance to take hold of Ward 6.

On the Campaign Trail

Notable campaign starters this week included Steven Pinto and Kevin Carr Jr.

At-Large incumbent Pinto began his campaign at the last Thursday with special guests including Congressman John Tierney, Sheriff Frank G. Cousins, Former Mayor Tony Salvo and a number of fellow and former councilors.

Kevin Carr Jr. — a current School Committee member, commenced his campaign Sunday at the . Guests spotted at his kickoff included Mayor Kim Driscoll, Rep. John Keenan, former Police Chief Robert St. Pierre and various City councilors.

Filing Deadlines

The deadline for taking out nomination papers is July 29. Preliminary elections are scheduled for Sept. 20, and residents will make a final decision on their Council representatives-of-choice on Nov. 8.
