Dunkin' Donuts Customer Goes Shoeless
The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday, Sept. 25
4:45 p.m. — Police responded to Dunkin' Donuts on Paradise Road on a call of an undesirable. Officers said they were informed a woman keeps going into the store barefoot. Police said they contacted the woman on a bench and she told them while she was at the beach at Swampscott that day, someone stole her belongings along with her shoes. Police said the woman was given a ride to a residence to retrieve some shoes, and she was sent on her way without incident.
5:20 p.m. — Past threats were reported on Lafayette Street.
5:25 p.m. — The Fire Department called for the Salem Police on Mason Street after a firefighter reported "he had attempted to stop traffic on Mason Street for a minute while the front of a house was being taken down." The firefighter told the officer a woman tried to pass in a car. When he spoke to her, "she became verbally abusive and told him she did not have to stop for a firefighter." Police were not able to contact the woman, who was out of Marblehead, police said.
6:08 p.m. — Police said they received a call to check on a woman passed out in a vehicle on Pope Street. One said the vehicle was backed in crooked and a woman was passed out in the driver's seat with the vehicle still running. Police said after investigation, Kelly Sherac (see below) was arrested.
7:39 p.m. — A man yelling at a vehicle was reported on Oak Street.
7:52 p.m. — Needles were found in a Pratt Street residence.
8:52 p.m. — Police did a directed patrol of the walkway from Federal Street to Bridge Street and found a person sitting on a bench reading the Herald in the dark. Police said the man was told he could not loiter in the dark.
9:02 p.m. — A woman ringing doorbells was reported on Weatherly Drive.
9:58 p.m. — A loud party was reported on Essex Street.
Kelly Marie Sharac, 42, of 164 Prospect St. in Gloucester was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, illegal possession of a class B substance and operating after a license suspension.
Wednesday, Sept. 26
12:13 a.m.— A loud group on a porch was reported on High Street.
1:30 a.m. — An undesirable person sleeping in an apartment was reported on Lafayette Street.
2:08 a.m. — A possible break-in was reported on Holly Street, but police said a man was trying to open the door for a woman who lives there as she did not have her keys.
3:09 a.m. — Police saw a person standing in the shadows at the McDonald's on Canal Street and Broadway. Police said the man was dressed in a black hoody, and when the officers approached him, he was holding a salt packet in one hand and a sugar packet in the other. Police identified the man, and when they asked why he was in the area, he said he was eating salt and sugar. Police said the man was not in need of medical attention, did not have any warrants, and was sent on his way.
6:27 a.m. — Stolen medications were reported on Lafayette Street.
8:55 a.m. — A pedestrian struck by a vehicle was reported at Loring Avenue and Rainbow Terrace.
9:01 a.m. — Police said a woman found young children on Waite Street, and they were returned to the mother.
12:10 p.m. — A missing air conditioner was reported on Washington Street.
12:36 p.m. — Smoke in a building was reported on Berrywood Lane. Police said a person arrived home and found the first floor was full of smoke. The Salem Fire Department responded and there was a toaster oven with food in it, but it wasn't fully ignited.
2:18 p.m. — A stolen computer was reported on Bridge Street.
Kelley E. Damon, 30, of 214 Lafayette St. was arrested on charges of operating with a revoked license, illegal possession of a class B substance and a red light or stop sign violation.
Robert A. Frost, 28, of 50 Echo Ave. in Beverly was arrested on a charge of violation of the city knife ordinance.
Matthew T. Hames, 30, of 1-A Macarthur Cr. in Peabody was arrested on three warrants.
