Did You Lose Power Tuesday Night?
A transformer fire caused widespread power outages in North Salem Tuesday night. Did your power go out?
Hundreds of city residents found themselves without power Tuesday night after a transformer caught on fire on Grove Street.
At 8:20 p.m., police and fire units responded to a report of a burning utility pole on Grove Street - by 8:50 p.m., local firefighters were clearing the scene.
Deputy Fire Chief Glen Beaudet described the pole fire as a "one-truck operation" and said National Grid wil be looking into what caused the fire.
So, we have to ask - were you one of the Salem residents to lose power Tuesday night? How long did the outage laste at your house? What were you doing when the lights went out?
We built the map attached to this post using outage reports from readers on our Salem Patch Facebook page and it looks like it was pretty widespread.

Tremont was out to and it was around 10:00pm. Where on Grove st. was the pole on fire? I didn't hear or see any emergency vehicles with flashing lights like, police or fire, National Grids flashing yellow lights?

National Grid was unavailable for comment Tuesday night - but perhaps the outage occurred while crews were replacing the transformer.
