Danvers Firefighters Join Brethen, Back Slattery for Senate
The Danvers union joins firefighters in Peabody and Salem, endorsing John Slattery in the Senate race.

Joining their brethren in Peabody and Salem, the Danvers firefighters have likewise pledged their support to John Slattery in the State Senate race.
Slattery, who is running against Mary-Ellen Manning and Salem City Councilor Joan Lovely to succeed Peabody's Fred Berry for the 2nd Essex District seat, met with union membership last Thursday. A letter from IAFF Local 2038 President Brian Barry on Friday announced that the union was endorsing Slattery.
Slattery said he was honored to have the support.
"John has a proven record of being proactive in his support of public service and the working class at both the state and local levels. We feel that John would bring much needed strength, leadership and experience to the 2nd Essex Senate District during these tough economic times," Barry wrote.
Slattery is a former state Representative for Peabody and served one term as a city councilor prior to that.
Lovely recently issued a challenge to her opponents to not accept financial contributions from political action committees and special interests, including unions.

No surprise here. Slattery plays well with the union bosses, which should give pause to taxpayers who will foot the bill when he has to pay them back for their support. This unholy alliance of public sector unions and politicians is bad for the public.

I'm proud to say that I stand with the Danvers' Bravest in supporting John. He has the most experience, sorely lacking in Mrs. Lovely, the relationships in the Legislature from his days on Beacon Hill and an honest, forthright and hard-working ethic. This is a guy that is ready to 'roll up his sleeves' and get to the important work of representing our district so expertly represented by Fred Berry.
