Damien Echols Moves to Salem

Damien Echols has made a home in Salem, and he's sharing his experiences on Twitter.
Echols, who was one of the West Memphis Three convicted of murder in Arkansas in the 90s, was sentenced to death, according to the New York Times.
He was released in 2011 on a plea deal after new evidence indicated he was innocent, according to the Salem News. Earlier this year, he released a book about his journey.
Over the past couple months, Echols had been sharing his thoughts on Salem, his new home, via Twitter.
On Sept. 30 he wrote — "The air is chilly,the moon light is bright,and the Halloween cheer goes from one end of town to the other. I love Salem."

Susan, that was a very uneducated comment. Quite obviously you don't know ANY of the facts of the case...or of Damien's innocence! Spreading fear, hatred & ignorance is dangerous!

Susan, posting false acusations to protect a corrupt Arkansas Senator doesn't make them true. "Cineca" was correct - spreading fear, hatred & ignorance doesn't work in the better educated states. Go back to Arkansas where you'll blend right in.

Now, you just wait one minute there whoever you are. What do you mean "go back to Arkansas where you'll blend right in?" Just who are you to cast such a disparaging remark about anyone who lives in Arkansas? Talk about spreading hatred and ignorance, you have just insulted those of us who live in Salem who were born in the south. And as it just so happens, I was in Memphis at the very same time this incident occurred and while it has been proven that these boys, who are now men, were convicted because of corruption, there were also three other little boys who were brutally slain by someone. So while Susan's remark was crass and ignorant, yours is no better.

it's news because the poor, innocent guy spent 1/2 of his life in jail & once released, he could have chosen to live anywhere. but, he chose to make Salem his home! if you are a Salemite, this should make you proud that you live in an awesome city!

It's news because he wrote a book that includes Salem. With the right lawyers the rest of his life will be much better than the past but that does not equal the value of such a life changing mistake.

I myself was recently falsley accused of a crime, luckily the case was dismissed. But the process put my family through a lot of stress & financial burden. Innocent or not some people will always look at me that way. Give the guy a break!

I havent said one negative thing about him. But we are not best friends, i dont need to buy his book, follow him on twitter, or "welcome" him to salem like i am some ambassador and he is a visiting diplomat. Again....moronic!

Many of you posting here know almost nothing about this case beyond what you have read in our local papers and whatever you have gleaned from Wikipedia. I have read enough about this tragic case to know that Mr. Echols and his friends are guilty of the henious crimes they have been convicted of. Unlike you, I consider him a danger to this community and to our young children in particular and am troubled by his move to Salem. Should you wish to know more FACTS about this case I would recommend that you read the book, "The Blood of Innocents" which was written by reporters who covered the case and the trials as they unfolded. You will find some excerpts from it that I have recently posted on Salemweb.com.
