Crystal Ball Culprit in Car Fire

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Monday and Tuesday. For a list of arrests, click here.

Monday, Oct. 15

4:02 p.m. — Past larceny was reported on Palmer Street. Police said a Macbook was missing.

4:13 p.m. — A fire in the kitchen was reported on Rainbow Terrace. Police said nobody was hurt, and the fire department took care of the stove.

5:03 p.m. — Kids throwing rocks at cars were reported on Florence Street.

5:23 p.m. — Police said a manhole fire was reported at Lafayette and Harbor streets.

5:55 p.m. — Four men and possible marijuana activity was reported on Essex Street. Police said there was no sign of liquor or marijuana, and the men were moved along.

6:05 p.m. — Ongoing bullying was reported at the Boys & Girls Club on Hawthorne Boulevard.

6:18 p.m. — A raccoon stuck in a garbage can was reported on Ocean Terrace.

7:17 p.m. — Police said a dog was found on Cabot Street.

9:12 p.m. — A suspicious man walking around on Bridge Street with an open empty gas can smelling strongly of gas was reported. Police said they weren't able to find the man.

Tuesday Oct 16

1:31 a.m. — A suspicious person yelling on the Common was reported. Police said a woman was found in a highly intoxicated state and she was taken into protective custody.

8:40 a.m. — Police said a suspicious vehicle in the street was reported on Cedarcrest Avenue.

9:36 a.m. — Damage to equipment was reported on Highland Avenue. Police said a man told them a man walks by his business each day complaining about the equipment near the sidewalk. Police said they were told the man was seen by a lift and banged the control panel with a cane. There was $141 in damage.

11:43 a.m. — Police said a tenant dispute was reported on Margin Street.

12:18 p.m. — Bullying at the high school was reported.

1:15 p.m. — A vehicle on fire was reported on Proctor Street. Police said a man said "he was eating lunch when he noticed his car was fire." Police said the man was able to put out the fire before the fire department arrived. The fire department "believes a crystal ball may have caused the fire."

2:30 p.m. — Police said a past assault was reported on Ames Street.
