Cops Confiscate Taser from Salem Tourist

Tuesday, Oct. 9
4:42 p.m. — A possibly abandoned vehicle was reported on Leach Street.
4:45 p.m. — Police said a stolen laptop was reported on Saunders Street. The man told police he was expecting a computer.
5:29 p.m. — A dog attack was reported on Leach Street. A woman said one dog bit another. The woman said her dog was not injured badly, but she wanted to document the incident.
5:31 p.m. — Stolen mail was reported on Tremont Street.
5:53 p.m. — Theft of a wallet was reported on Essex Street.
6:43 p.m. — A smell of burning was reported at Mooney Road and Durkin Road.
7:07 p.m. — A vehicle into a pole was reported at Loring Avenue and Paradise Road. Police said a woman told them she was driving toward her home and when she went to turn "she over steered her motor vehicle and jumped the curb, hitting a crosswalk light, breaking it off at its foundation." Police said the woman's vehicle had front-end damage and it was towed from the scene.
7:31 p.m. — A needle found in the street was reported on Gedney Court.
7:34 p.m. — Police received a call a possible fight would happen in a Loring Avenue lot. Police said the the call was unfounded.
7:47 p.m. — A broken front glass door was reported on Halsey Way. Police said the resident told them the door may have been hit by a rock.
7:49 p.m. — Police said a man with a weapon in the hall was reported at Loring Towers. Police said a man told them someone stole $25 from him. Police spoke with the person in question, and he told them he had a knife by the door, but not on him. There were no assaults or threats made, according to police.
10:27 p.m. — A motor vehicle accident involving an ambulance was reported on Mill Street. Police said the ambulance was hit from behind.
11:32 p.m. — Police said a woman causing a disturbance was reported on Cedarcrest Avenue.
Wednesday, Oct. 10
3:04 a.m. — Officers responded to a domestic situation on Essex Street. Police said the man and woman were visiting Salem and had been fighting over when they would be leaving. Police said the man was taken into protective custody because he was intoxicated. When asked if there were weapons in their possession, police said the woman told them the man purchased a wooden sword and she carries a taser, which is legal in her state. Police said the taser was turned over and will be kept in safe-keeping.
3:42 a.m. — A past fight in the area was reported on Federal Street.
5:27 p.m. — Police said they responded to a trash fire at Essex Street and Derby Square. Police said the Salem Fire Department extinguished the fire.
8:16 p.m. — Police retrieved a backpack that was lodged in the fence at Salem Common.
10:01 a.m. — Police received a call a bird had a broken wing on Boston Street. Police said the bird appeared healthy, but did not fly away.
11:13 a.m. — Knives were turned into the Salem Police Department for destruction.
1:39 p.m. — A shelter set up in the corner of the cemetery by Murphy's was reported. Police said the shelter was removed.
2:12 p.m. — Police said a shoplifter was reported at the Boutique on Derby Street.
2:47 p.m. — Police were called to check for a water break in the roadway at Proctor and Pope streets.
3:21 p.m. — A man walking into the water by the Beverly Salem Bridge was reported. Police said the person came out of the water, and the Beverly Police and Harbormaster were notified.
