Campaign manager says Patrice Tierney was hit by another car.
UPDATE: This story was updated at 1:06 p.m. with a statement from Matt Robinson, campaign manager for Congressman John Tierney.
Patrice Tierney, the wife of Congressman John Tierney of Salem (D-6th District) was injured this morning when she was involved in a car accident, according to published reports.
Congressman Tierney was spotted by reporters just past noon on Tuesday, helping his wife to a waiting car after she had been treated for injuries at Beverly Hospital, according to an article published on bostonherald.com.
Matt Robinson, Tierney's campaign manager said Mrs. Tierney had been struck by another vehicle.
“While traveling this morning, Patrice Tierney’s car was struck from behind by another car. She sustained some injuries and was treated at Beverly Hospital before being released around mid-day. It appears that having her seat belt on prevented her injuries from being far more serious. She and Congressman Tierney thank all who expressed their concern during the last few hours and appreciate the continued thoughts and prayers from friends, family and supporters,” said Robison. “We are reviewing the Congressman's schedule for the next couple of days and will adjust it accordingly so that he can care for his wife.”
Congressman Tierney is engaged in a tight battle for re-election against GOP challenger Richard Tisei. The Tierney campaign has been dogged by allegations that he knew more than he has told regarding an illegal gambling operation involving his wife, her brother and other family members.
