Coming Soon to Salem: Longboards Cafe & Bar

Longboards Cafe & Bar will be opening at this well-known commercial space on Pickering Wharf.

This Wharf Street commercial space that was formerly home to The Hungry Whale will reopen in the coming months as Longboards Cafe & Bar.

According to recent posts on the business' Facebook page, the cafe and bar is expected to offer artisan pizzas, panini, sandwiches and more.

Although an opening date has not yet been set, Salem Patch will be sure to keep you posted when the owners are ready to open their doors to the public.

Is there a beer variety or favorite food item that you're hoping will be included on the Longboards Cafe and Bar menu when it reopens?

I just hope the sandwiches are the same from the Hungry Whale menu. Those are fantastic! No new items needed in my opinion.

We plan on keeping many of the original sandwiches and adding a few more. With the addition of some great thin personal pizzas, some tasty finger foods and of course a beer or two, we hope to be a welcome addition to the wharf. Lots more details to follow as we continue to move forward. The website should be up and running soon, in the meantime, you can follow us on Facebook. WWW.Facebook.com/Longboards.

Are these guys going to buy out those who own the condo's above them. When those units were purchased they didn't plan on having a bar located beneath their living rooms.

Caveat Emptor. They did buy condos directly above street level commercial space.

I have followed this rollercoaster since the Hungry Whale was named as having the best sandwich in Salem. A couple of years ago I was walking around the wharf during the summer and decided to grab something simple to eat. 2 steamed hot dogs and a coke. I figured maybe 5 bucks, not even close. If I remmember it was about 8 bucks. Yesterday afternoon I was down at the wharf and it was a ghost town. So, I get the impression this is a place that over charges during the short season and then opens limited hours 5-6 days a week in the off season.Pickering Wharf is in disrepair while the Rockett family battles in court.Only the 3 main restaraunts maintain year round business. The rest is a crap shoot.

Hey John, we have only operated the former Hungry Whale for a little over a year, you may have had this meal under the old ownership. I can say that we have some mighty tasty dogs! All beef, extra long dogs that are grilled to order and served on a warm brioche roll, they are delicious! We plan to remain open year round and hope to offer both residents and tourists a unique and different dining experience here on the wharf. We really hope you stop back down for another try, we promise not to disappoint. Cheers!
