City Declares Snow Emergency and Parking Ban for Noon Friday

Starting at noon Friday, no cars will be allowed to park on Salem's streets.

The city has set noon Friday as the time when a snow emergency goes into effect. At that time, parking will no longer be allowed on Salem's streets.

The city is expected to get one to two feet of snow starting Friday evening into Saturday morning.

While some residents have expressed skepticism about the city actually ticketing, the city says it means business for this storm.

"Ticketing and towing will begin at noon on Friday and will be strictly enforced due to the magnitude of this upcoming storm," a city press release stated.

All the city lots downtown will be available for snow emergency parking for free, the release said. At Museum Place and the South Harbor Garage snow emergency parking fees are capped at $5.

Those city lots include:

Crombie Street, Sewall Street, Riley Plaza, Church Street East and West, One Salem Green, Front Street, Klop Alley and the municipal lot at the MBTA train station.

For more information please visit the city's Web site or call the city's Snow Emergency Line at 978-744-0171, ext. 166.
