CinemaSalem Exceeds Fundraising Goal
Salem residents have opened up their wallets and saved CinemaSalem.
It's official, CinemaSalem will be able to replace their projectors.
As of early this morning, an online fundraising effort to save CinemaSalem that kicked off earlier this month had raised $61,665.
Theater Owner Paul Van Ness has enlisted the help of Kickstarter, an online fundraising platform, in the hopes of raising the $60,000 needed to buy the digital projectors he needs to stay in business.
Without the projectors, Van Ness said the theater wouldn't have been able to show the latest Hollywood films and will force him to close up shop in a matter of months, according to this video on the Kickstarter page.

We've demonstrated that we support our local businesses and we are trying to address the education issues. Using our group will, I think the city can also overcome the sudden increase in crime through local watch groups, reverse 911, increase in police funding, community policing and on focusing on the homelessness and drug issue that is affecting our city.

WE? I'm guessing that you didn't donate a nickel so WE didn't bail anybody out. CinemaSalem is a valued and contributing member of the Salem business community. The financial support that they have given to children and families in the city over the years far exceeds the funds raised for this equipment.
Bravo to Paul van Ness and CinemaSalem and kudos for the people of Salem for stepping up to support a true Pillar of our community.

The difference between bailing out the banks and bailing out a local theater is we had a choice that WE made, not a choice made for us. I suppose you are one of those types that has a sense of entitlement. People like Paul Van Ness are pillars of a community in which they live and work. I would challenge you to take such a risk as Paul did when he purchased the Cinema Salem, which at the time was a failed business, and not only have it thrive as it has but give back as he has in these past years in operation. If you are not willing to take on such a challenge and risk everything, then i would suggest you flex your digital muscles to someone else.

Seriously? First off, Paul Van Ness is neither a pand handerler nor a panhandler. He is an amazing asset to the local community. I could go on and on to refute your ignorant statements, but it would be a waste of keystrokes. Go pand handerle and see if you can get people to donate brain cells.

This is wonderful news for our city! My son and I love going to this theater to see our movies...its close by, we are supporting a local business and the popcorn...well, enough said. Thrilled they will be able to stay open!!
