Christmas Lights Stolen on New Derby Street

The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Thursday, Dec. 13:

  • At 4:00 p.m., police received word that a box truck had struck a sign on Boston Street.
  • At 4:10 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Aurora Lane.
  • At 5:22 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Boston and Federal streets. Matthew J. Waters, 32, of 4 First St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of illegally possessing a class C substance (Adderall) and for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 7:16 p.m., police responded to Lafayette Street for a report of trespassers.
  • At 9:26 p.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at the Walgreens on New Derby Street. Sheena M. Tassone, 27, of 56 Margin St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting.
  • At 9:46 p.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at the Walgreens on New Derby Street. Jonathan Benson, 40, of 56 Margin St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise.
  • At 10:26 p.m., an employee at Maria's Sweet Somethings called police to report that a woman was trying to steal a string of Christmas lights off of the shop's front bushes. Police were unable to find the woman, who reportedly fled the area holding plastic candy canes.

Friday, Dec. 14:

  • At 4:47 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Beaver Street after a resident there said someone was banging on their door. Benjamin L. Davis, 33, of 57 Beaver St., Salem, was arrested on charges of malicious destruction of property valued above $250 and disorderly conduct.
  • At 7:36 a.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on North Street involving a Nissan sedan and a Volvo sedan.
  • At 8:04 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue involving a tractor trailer and a Dodge pickup truck.
  • At 8:15 a.m., police responded to a report of a dog struck in an alleyway on Essex Street. Police were unable to locate the animal.
  • At 10:10 a.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Traders Way.
  • At 2:50 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a police vehicle at the intersection of Lafayette and Laurel streets.
  • At 3:06 p.m., police responded to a report of low wires on Chestnut Street.

The lady must have been hard up for Christmas decors when she starts going around town picking and choosing from other peoples' displays. Did she miss the half-off sales on decors at the local drug and big box stores? :D

How long did it take officers to respond to a struck dog? I'm tired of reading that police arrived to reported incidents, "and could not locate" when they arrived.

We need MORE police presence in this city and less parking minions of Mayor Dreadful.
