Caller to Police: Man Dressed Like Jason Voorhees, Has Sword

An excerpt from the Salem Police Department's Saturday and Sunday logs.

The following is an excerpt from the Saturday and Sunday logs. Police received several calls about credit card and debit card fraud. They also received a call about a fake sword.

Saturday

  • At 12:22 p.m. Saturday, police said they received a call about a party who had misplaced a vehicle on Highland Avenue. Police said the car was parked in a legal spot in front of .
  • Police said a wallet found on Frederick Street was turned in at 12:25 p.m. Saturday.
  • At 12:35 p.m. Saturday, police received a call about loud noises coming from an autobody shop on Franklin Street.
  • Police were called to Essex and Washington streets at 1:23 p.m. Saturday after there was a report of a suspicious male party with a sword. Police said the caller told them a male party was walking around the downtown area "dressed like 'Jason Voorhees' from the horror movie industry" carrying a sword. When police spoke with the man, he said the sword he was carrying was made of rubber material and he was carrying it around doing a promotion for a store. Police said the man "was advised that his appearance was alarming people and advised to cease for the day."
  • At 1:44 p.m. Saturday, police said they received a call about threats from a Derby Street resident. Police said the caller told them he had received calls from his roommate, which were threatening. The male told police the roommate was threatening to go to his place of employment and stab him with a knife. Police arrested James Getchell, 21, of 107 Mason St. and charged him with domestic assault with a knife and threatening to commit a crime.
  • A wallet was found on Derby Street at 2:53 p.m. Saturday.
  • Wire fraud was reported from a Washington Street caller at 3:50 p.m. Saturday.
  • Police received a call  at 5:02 p.m. Saturday about trash bags in the roadway.
  • A lost wallet was found at Salem and Palmer streets at 5:28 p.m. Saturday.
  • Police arrested Hakeem William Jackson, 20, of 7 Partridge Berry Lane in Hamilton on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise and resisting arrest after they received a call from on Norman Street about a shoplifter on scene at 5:41 p.m. Saturday. Police said an officer arrived at the store and saw two males standing at the counter. One repeatedly told the officer he did nothing wrong and put his hands in the air and told the officer to search him. When the officer turned to speak with the employee, the man took off running. While he was running, police said a Pringles container and Nature Valley bar fell from his person. The officer said he located the man looking over a fence and told him he was going to get in more trouble if he ran, but he continued running. Police said another officer saw the suspect run onto Chestnut Street from Summer Street.  Police said Jackson gave up on Broad Street at the cemetery fence, and was patted down for officer safety. Several Nature Valley bars were found. Police said the male stuffed items down his pants. The items stolen totaled $16.16.
  • At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police said larceny of makeup, perfume and jewelry was reported on Rainbow Terrace. The officer said a female party told him her friend and hired babysitter took items. Police said the woman admitted to taking the items, but wanted to return them. The items were returned at the station, but the woman told police two necklaces were still missing.

  • Holli Lynn Garcia, 31, of 78 Maryann Rd. in Manchester, NH was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without being licensed, leaving the scene after property damage, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and a marked lanes violation.
  • A Salem man was arrested on a harassment prevention violation. The charge was later dropped.

Sunday

  • Police received a noise complaint from Federal Street at 1:04 a.m. Sunday.
  • A suspicious powder on an elevator floor was reported on Pope Street at 1:39 a.m. Sunday.
  • At 1:46 a.m. Sunday, police said a female said she saw several females damage her vehicle. The vehicle was keyed and there was damage to the bumper in the center by the license plate, police said.
  • Police received a call about parties going through yards at 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Police said they responded to the area and made contact with a male and female going through yards. The parties told police they were out for a walk and a male had been following them.
  • At 8:42 a.m. Sunday, a past motor vehicle break-in was reported. Police said an unknown party had shattered the rear window of a Jeep by throwing a rock through it.
  • Police said a male reported a past incident behind the Headquarters at 9:14 a.m. Sunday. A male told  police he saw a male and female in an altercation in the parking lot behind the building at 8:30 p.m. the night prior. When the man went to break up the altercation, the male party punched him in the face. Police said both parties fled and the man went to the hospital with a jaw injury.
