Call About Fight is Actually a Fall

The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrest on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, May 7

4:24 p.m. — Police received a call about harassment at Lafayette and Harbor streets. A woman said a man has been spreading rumors about her to the property managers.

4:41 p.m. — Past larceny of tools was reported on Lafayette Street.

7:04 p.m. — Undesirables at a bus stop on New Derby Street were reported.

7:45 p.m. — An undesirable was reported on Gallows Hill Road. Police said the person was highly intoxicated and was taken into protective custody.

8:02 p.m. — A dryer fire was reported on Marlborough Road. The fire department arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire, police said.

8:09 p.m. — Police said an undesirable begging was reported at Washington and New Derby streets.

8:53 p.m. — A pocketbook was reportedly left at New England Soup Factory.

9:09 p.m. — Two women lighting off fireworks were reported on Leach Street.

9:41 p.m. — Construction work was reported on Becket Street. Police said the man was advised to stop building the patio he was working on.

9:55 p.m. — Police received another fireworks complaint, this time from Lafayette and Leach streets. Police said they were not able to locate the fireworks.

10:09 p.m. — A suspicious spotlight was reported on Barcelona Avenue.

10:14 p.m. — Malicious destruction to a vehicle was reported on Green Street. Police said a window was smashed.

10:25 p.m. — A Jeep on the beach was reported on Restaurant Row. Police said there was no evidence the Jeep was on the beach, but the driver had a revoked license and was issued a citation.

Tuesday, May 8

2:08 a.m. — A fight in the street was reported on Hancock Street. Police spoke with a woman who said she had some friends over and they were hanging out. The woman said there was no fight, but she did fall.

6:33 a.m. — Police said a stolen scooter was reported on Lawrence Street.

6:42 a.m. — A single vehicle that went into a pole was reported at Loring Avenue and Vinnin Street.

9:22 a.m. — Police said a past break-in to a residence was reported on Clifton Avenue.

9:29 a.m. — A smashed vehicle window was reported on Green Street.

10:03 a.m. — Landscapers found a dead cat on Swampscott Road.

11:04 a.m. — Fraud was reported on Salem Street.

1:13 p.m. — Past larceny was reported on Charter Street. A man said money was missing from a table.

1:59 p.m. — Police received a call from a business on Traders Way about a past larceny. Police said the loss prevention manager believes two men "flim flammed" a register.

3:04 p.m. — Police said a person begging in a crosswalk was reported at Washington and New Derby streets.

3:18 p.m. — A person banging on walls was reported on Lafayette Street. The person said his neighbor keeps banging on the  walls in the middle of the night and does it a few times a week.

Tuesday Arrest

Jackson Vergil Depiero, 22, of 385 Lafayette St., was arrested on a charge of operating after a license suspension.
