Brodie's to Take Over Seaport Cafe Location
Family that owns Peabody establishment will open Derby Street location.
The Votto family, which owns Brodie's Pub in Peabody Square, is planning to open another establishment at 215 Derby St. in Salem — the current location of the Seaport Cafe.
The Salem Licensing Board approved an application and a pledge for the transfer of an annual beer and wine license at its Monday night meeting.
Peabody attorney Jack Keilty, who represented the applicant, MMJ LLC, told the Board the transaction would be fully completed when approved by the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.
The applicants said the Derby Street establishment would, like the Peabody location, be called Brodie's.
In addition to the new restaurant, the applicants indicated they are interested in opening an ice cream window at the Derby Street location.
We'll let you know when we have more.
The beloved owner of the Seaport Cafe died unexpectedly in early February.
Be sure to stay tuned for more information on the new Brodie's location.

Aww, the Seaport didn't make it? We were recently there!
that sucks... but I DO love Brodie's. Be nice to finally eat at Brodie's in the rain and not have to worry about when the river is gonna flow through the dining room.

That is too bad - I liked Seaport and the people who worked there.

All of the employees will remain and the live music will continue. The menu will be expanded to include a lot of the Brodies favorites.

I think after the owner died maybe they needed someone to take over and that person they needed never appeared.

Agreed Nancy. It would be a shame if we lost the employees who've treated us so well. And the music would a huge loss too. Let's hope both stay.
