Stacia's Place is AMAAZING! Tuesday-Saturday 10:30- 4:3-. This is a true Salem gem!

Kings used to be good but no more. Phone in orders haven't even been started when you arive, counter staff is rude, and the quality just isn't what it used to be. Damatas is much better!

The Hungry Whale is really not a "sub shop", but more of a specialty sandwich shop. The sandwiches are KILLER. If you have not yet tried one, I advise you to stop down Pickering Wharf and give one a try!!

The hungry whale might not only be the best sandwiches in Salem but the best in the north shore! In addition the service is super friendly. I always go for the lobster roll, lots of meat and flavor but light on the mayo. The ice cream is great as well.

I kinda want to know who picked Subway.

Bellas driver almost ran me over last week while I was in a cross walk.

Giovanni's has the best roast beef!! Always rare and melts in my mouth!! And they grill the sub roll when u have in sub form.

Years ago Salem Super Sub had two location Boston and Essex and Riley Plaza. When the rotary was removed the owner thought the Riley Plaza location would never survive so he closed it and kept the Boston st( Lenas today). As it turned out that part of the area on Washington St is one of the only areas that has parking all the time.The steak subs there were awesome.Today Super Sub is gone.

Don't forget Christina's - I'm biased because they're across the street, but they do some very good subs there!

Kings is awesome. You can get good roast beef at Bill and Bobs but you pay for it . Kings Roast Beef sandwiches are huge and the price is right.

Who cares about Dubis? I'd rather be a flesh-eating zombie in Nigeria than go there. Kings is the place to be.

I must say, some of the comments on here are pretty ridiclous and completely out of line. This is a friendly contest within a friendly city. In my opinion, keep your comments clean, myself and others have no desire to read such filth. Many great choices on this list, choose your favorite and have a good time. Be appropriate, not ridiclous. For the women who commented on Sarah's comment......relax, seriously, relax. It's her husband who she said was cute, she was simply having fun and being friendly......unlike yourself. Shamful

First its "Who Makes The Best Sub?" not sandwich, I mean why not mention Bill and Bobs? Kings could win on another poll but not subs. Lenas has always been the best. Even though Larry subs on Congress street has been gone all these years still deserves be mentioned..

I did mention Bill and Bobs as a comparison to Kings. Kings sells subs but B and B does not

So, I was looking at the Kings website and saw this tidbit

I knew their sauce and beef tasted awfully familiar. not exact, but similar.

I have to say that if anyone is pumping up their numbers it's the Hungry Whale. If your place is so good you would be delivering till midnight at a sweet profit.

Wow. This is some thread. I'm usually a fan of Kings, though I've never had a sub there. I can't wait to check out The Hungry Whale.

I've been to both hungry whale and Kings I respectfully state that kings is better! There is a larger selection of food at kings also. I have lived in Salem for 25 years and go to kings weekly I quite frankly love kings !

Go kings! we order it at the station all the time not a big fan of the hungry whale.

It makes a lot of sense to me as to why a place, which is fairly unknown, like the hungry whale is putting up high numbers. If you forced everyone in town to vote obviously these numbers would be very different. but as someone who recently starting going to the hungry whale its not hard to understand. The owners of this are two young, energetic and honest working guys. They might not have the constant flow such as a place like kings but man its almost like a hangout spot. hell i felt like i had known justin for years the first time we met. people stay there after they finish the sandwich to hangout from what i saw. also they do a ton of social media advertising from what he says. that right their explains the votes. Kings owners are probably old-school and don't even know what facebook and twitter are. THey are an upstart business who are busting their ass to spread the word and its obviously working. A place like kings doesn't need necessarily need or gain much form winning this, where as for a new and upcoming place like the whale this would be huge for them. I don't think they are "rigging" it i think they just understand the value and are doing a great job with social media at spreading the word. sorry for the winded response. as long as a local company wins and not subway ill be happy! im just happy to live in an area with so many great options!

As I have said,if you can pump up the numbers on this poll (and you can) it makes the poll useless. This poll has done nothing but created a small blood bath among Salem businesses. Is this really constructive?

I guess I missed the comments that were removed. I would like to point out Gene started it by a negative post about the help at Kings. The owner has no idea this has been going on. My guess is they are just young fans of Kings. The owner of Kings is a great guy and is constantly supporting Schools, Fundraisers and Non-profits, The Owner Johnny K is an asset for the city of Salem!

My secound vote would go to Denas' on canal st. They are not on here. They always seem to be busy.

I will echo the comment from Christine concerning the owner of King's. He is a supporter of many youth and civic organizations in the city. It is unfair and to judge either him or his business because of a few silly characters. His place makes a great sandwich.

The Hungry Whale is great! The quality excellent! Alot of healthy choices too. I personally recommend the tom brady. And the Mattera Family are such great people. A must try.

I voted for The Hungry Whale. I've been to some of the other places on the list and while ive never had a bad experience at the places I have gone to,, I was also never blown overly impressed by anything I've ordered either. I choose the hungry whale because the owners/staff are always nice, the place is always clean and the food is always fresh! I went there this summer , a few times a week, solely for the caprese sanwhich. I liked that they offer fresh and unique vegetarian options. I'm also a bug ice cream fan and I like that I can grab a sanwhich and an ice cream at the same time.

Also....I love the passion surrounding Roast Beef sandwiches (that is a poll-worthy question all on it's own). And although I find the sandwiches at both Kings & Bill & Bobs to be just fine.....I will happily drive past both of those shops & continue on for another 10-15 minutes just to go to Nicks. :-P

Maybe would could have a poll about why Salem appears to be heading in the wrong direction. Needles are being found every place,house breaks,elderly being mugged, the schools under performing and drug deals all over the city. Salem needs to answer why. We need a means to publicly pressure the administration for a response

As this poll comes to an end I have to ask,does the Hungry Whale sell subs? I don't care who wins because I think like most people I will continue to go to the places I like but questions have been raised about who sells what

John, we are constantly changing our menu to satisfy our customers needs. Currently we offer all of our menu items on either a braided & seeded Italian roll or a wrap. We also offer a standard "sub" roll, however we would much rather you enjoy our selections on a toasted italian roll, it's simply much better. Please feel free to stop down anytime, we would love to have you.
