Bangkok Paradise Owner, 5 Others Arrested in Multi-Agency Drug Raids

Six North Shore men including the Bangkok Paradise owner, were arrested Friday morning. Police seized thousands of oxycodone pills, more than $50,000 in cash and a gun.

Authorities arrested six local men Friday morning in several drug raids across the North Shore.

One of the men was also identified as the owner of Bangkok Paradise, Jesus Franco.

Essex Country District Attorney's office spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said warrants were executed at 10 different locations in Lynn, Peabody, Salem and Danvers and police also seized thousands of oxycodone pills along with more than $50,000 in cash and a gun.

She said the arrests were the result of a "long-term, multi-agency drug investigation." The agencies involved were DA's Drug Task Force, state police, Drug Enforcement Agency, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Peabody, Lynn, Salem and Danvers police.

The following men were arrested and scheduled for arraignment in Peabody and Salem district courts Friday morning:

  1. Celton Pelaez, 36, of 84 Aborn St., Peabody, was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  2. Jesus Franco, 42, of 34 Perkins St., Salem, (owner of Bangkok Paradise) was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  3. Jason Gentry, 32, of 5 Station Rd., Salem, was charged with possession with intent to distribute oxycodone.
  4. David Soucy, 35, of 7 Garden St., Danvers, was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  5. Henry Hernandez, 36, of 32 Columbia Ave., Lynn, was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  6. Joel Gonzalez, 32, of 44 Lawrence Rd., Lynn, was charged with the sale of a firearm.

One can assume that this will have an impact on whether or not they get to keep their liquor license?

Those are awful things to say about a bunch of people you dont know. I can personally tell you from experience that the Salem Police should spend less time harassing people and making their lives miserable and maybe they would be able to focus more on crimes really going on. If the Salem Police do not like you for one reason or another, your best bet is to move out of the city or state because they will find all kinds of ways to mess with you and you will end up in trouble for things you either didnt do or did ten years ago.

Seems to me that the SPD are doing exactly what you think they should be doing.....focusing on the crime in this city! Kudos to all of them on this raid and to the myriad of other arrests and stings that they have accomplished. Theirs is not an easy job with the element that has moved into this city...it is a constant battle and they are doing a fine job! I for one am happy that the members of the SPD don't "like" drug dealers, hookers, gang members and the various other cretins that make life in Salem unsafe! Keep up the good work officers! Do you need some help packing up Sarah?

This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the saga of Bangkok Paradise and its owner. Hopefully now the Salem Licensing Board will finally pull the liquor and entertainment licenses from anyone even remotely connected to Mr. Franco. As I have stated before Salem needs better, safer bar/restaurant/night club establishments and the SLB apparently needs to vett its applicants better. The average patron doesn't want to spend their money in a place where they might be stabbed, be involved in a riot or fund drug dealers. The City of Salem should strive to find entrepreneurs who are willing to offer diverse entertainment with a well trained professional staff in a safe environment. Until that happens Salem and those supporting the likes of these criminals are just contributing to a black eye on the face of our fair city.

Hello Everyone,

What Bangkok Paradise took Oxycodone off their menu! Finally, we will be rid of this place. The owner is obviously a cretin (Birds of feather - given the low-life people who that frequent the place). Where will all those fine patrons of Bangkok go now? I would guess the Salem Hospital ER for withdrawal symptoms.

Hmmm, no more word from Mr. Lim? So vocal just the other day about the Salem Police Department (Bravo!! Where do I make donation to the fine Officers who serve our town?). carrying on a Witch Hunt. I am glad you will not be booking any more acts in the area if these are the people you so adamantly champion. any comments? You were so vocal the last time about the Bangkok. Any pearls of wisdom and or sage advice to offer us?

The Salem Police Dept. should be commended for stemming the flow of drugs in this town and ridding the area of those bad apples who corrupt this city.

I'm surprised about the news...I never saw any illegal activity take place inside the Bangkok. Besides I was defending the fact that a fight across the street from their bar was not their responsibility.

As far as my own events go. Shame on you for wishing ill upon my business and the artists who put so much work and love into what they do. The Bangkok Paradise is just one Venue in a world of possibilities.
