Guest speakers who grace the stage at Salem State University's annual commencement ceremony always head home with a commemorative plate that was hand-crafted in the college's glass art studio.

So, for this week's Ask a Salem Expert column, we stopped by the art studio Wednesday afternoon to watch Robert Fidrocki, John Volpacchio and Jeff Menteuck make one from scratch.

I've taken the introductory course in glass-blowing with John and Jeff. They are absolute treasures - creative, artistic, mature, excellent communicators of both their craft and cautions necessary when working with glass. Salem, and Salem State University are incredibly fortunate to have them here. Drop by the studio to watch and be dazzled.
